If you register the car in your parents name and then be primary driver on it I'm pretty sure your insurance will be less than having the car in your name.

I am doing the same thing and with my dad's insurance company under his policy... Even though I am the primary driver, it's still cheaper than going on my own. I pay about $170 a month with $0 deductible. And I am 21 years old.

If you are young and it's under your name, then it will be more expensive. However, as mentioned above, I am under my dad's policy, in addition to having a G license, and I do not live in the GTA. Hamilton is not part of the GTA.
