Yeah I asked! Complained actually, Furiously! What do you think they said? Typical standard answer; Everyones Insurance has gone up due to new Insurance 'regulations' and the high costs...What a crock!
It seems to me I and other good drivers are paying for all the arshole, shitass drivers out there.I haven't had a claim in over 20 years! Super spotless record yet in the past 2 years they (Allstate) has raised my Insurance by 30%....thats why I call them thiefs. And yet they can afford to give their employees Insurance for way under the standards and show billions in profit every year...
Thiefs was the nicest term I could have used by the way....
definately not the end of my rant

You should get some facts on Insurance before you rant.... All insurance companies ARE legislated by the governement... We just can't 'make up rates' and just raise people rates for no reason. It needs to be approved by them. Rates went up across the board, even my rates just recently went up. If you look at your insurance paperwork, I guarantee you that the bulk of your premiums are for Accident Benefit coverage, that's because a lot of people claim for fake injuries and everyone pays for that. I've seen claims where people have scratches on their bumper, yet 6 people in the car were all 'injured'....
I don't get rates 'way under' standards. I don't have tickets, I don't have accidents, I'm 35+ and I have 2cars and a house insured with them. Show billions in profits? Are you thinking about banks? because at Allstate, we were losing money for years... We actually don't make money on premiums... For every $1 we bring in on premiums, we were paying out $1.02 or something like that in claims.... We need to invest the premiums and make the money in the markets..... Most Insurance companies make their profit this way because it's a tough market... Want to get mad, ask you bank why they nickel and dime you for everything, they pay little to no interest, get breaks fromthe government yet THEY record billions in profit... I used to think like you prior to working where I work and being educated on how things actually work in Ontario with Insurance.

Haha you think your talking to a kid here? I've read plenty about the Insurance industry and government regulations etc; and I've heard the same story about how insurance companies pay 1.00+ for every $1 they get...Try again....Anyways you just bragged above about your rate $97 a mth! I have a car and a condo, I have a spotless record, I'm much older then you, yet my insurance rate is much much higher...Why? Remember NO FAULT Insurance? Why was it implemented? Since NFI, rates have gone nuts! Why don't you explain to everyone why NFI was put in place and who pushed for it?....I have to add though that I believe the Ontario Government is as much to blame as the insurance companies, maybe more so as they do nothing to solve the cause of inflated Insurance premiums in this province whatsoever.I'll bet though, if you worked for a bank you'd probably defend them also lol.

I find it hard to beieve that it is regulated by the gov't. I'm with Belair for 5 yrs now and pay close to $3000/yr and it has gone up every yr). Full coverage, zero deductible.
If I change my policy to $500 deduct, etc I only save $100/ yr. For the exact same coverage thu TD group plan from where I work it is just under $2000 /yr. That's a big difference.
In Manitoba, insurance is run by the province, the rates are a lot cheaper and you get merits for every 2 yrs of good driving which can be applied to your insurance = discounts. I was paying $1500 with full coverage, 100 deductible, new car replacement and that is with the merits applied. IIRC in Manitoba there is the no-fault policy too. Yes i know the population base is larger here in Ontario than Manitoba = more shitty drivers but we still pay way too much for insurance.
We here in Ontario get ripped off...
I didn't assume anything about your age. Try again on what Allstate brings in on Premiums and what we pay? I'm sure you can find that info out, I think it may be on the FSCO website but I'm not 100% sure. I know it's out there somewhere. I believe it's available to the public. My rates just went up $9/month, not much but they did raise. I am paying $108 a month now. Allstate has multi car discounts and house Insurance discount, so I have those 2 discounts + an employee discount. Other non Insurance related companies give their employees discounts, this is not uncommon. Every place I've ever worked gives discounts to employees.... Where you live has a big part on your premiums too, if you are in a high risk area, your rates will be higher. Again, I'm not an underwriter so I don't have all the guidelines or formulas they use to come up with rates.
You do know what no fault insurance is and how it actually works right? This again was legislated by FSCO (Financial Services Commission of Ontario). Info can be found on their website. Banks, no I probably wouldn't defend them. Banks and Insurance are 2 differnet things. Insurance you are buying a promise to be protected in the event of a loss. Banks just hold your money, invest it to make themselves money and give you little to nothing in return (standard Savings/chequing accounts etc...), then they charge you for every little transaction that they can. Mean while they do get breaks from the government and record massive profits. Some banks record more profit than the entire profits of the standard Insurance industry. If you had a loss where you really did hurt someone bad and were being sued or you drove into a Tim Hortons or something, you'll be really happy when you have liabilty Insurance and that Third Party is suing/trying to collect hundreds of thousands of dollars (maybe even millions) for injurys, lost revenue etc....
You may find it hard to believe but it's true. Insurance Co's are govened by FSCO and IBC. FSCO's website is here and you can get lots of useful info there. http://www.fsco.gov.on.ca/
Yes, Insurance is high in Ontario, I think the highest in the country. There are many factors for this. In Ontario, a main factor is Accident Benefits and the scams that go on with Injuries. When I was an adjuster years ago it was crazy what was going on and what still goes on today.
Driving in Manitoba vs driving in Ontario aren't even comparable. There are more people in Toronto alone then in all of Manitoba.
Anyways, I wasn't trying to start a debate on Insurance. Read info in the FSCO website and hopefully that will provide some good info.
Here's a great example of why Insurance is so high here in Ontario.....

Ontario’s car insurance industry is under attack by bogus medical clinics that use fake accident treatment charges to milk the system.
$1,247 for a portable acupuncture machine.
$2,363 for “aqua fitness therapy.”
$450 for pain-relieving massages.
Then there was the $1,293 invoice submitted to an insurer for a long-handled Swiffer and other equipment to help a Toronto man with a minor injury clean his house.
None of these treatments or machines were provided to accident victims.
Read the full article for more info.

$500+ full coverage, live in markham... if i moved 50 miles west, 150+ cheaper, (wut the....) one minor ticket + 20 + male... <--- new study came out that females are more likely to be in crashes. insurance is gonna change in the next few years as insurance companies cannot keep ripping of men!!! F^&%...

Mine changed actually..
2008 CWP MS3
$249.90 per month
1 traffic violation
1 50/50 accident (some stupid creature hit me from behind as I was just about to come to a complete stop).
PEO preferred rate
Went up by about $28 per month when I switched to the speed.. Can't complain really..![]()

So how's this for an increase. I'm moving 5 minutes.... 5 MINUTES down the road...
And my premiums just DOUBLED.
WTF

YA. Um. I'm not even sure what to do right now... I guess I'll have to look around, and take a hit from cancelling early if I do switch? fkkkkkkk
I didn't realize 5 MINUTES made such a huge difference. I'm assuming it's due to more thefts in that area? (even though it's in a private townhome complex and further away from the downtown core than I am now) But it's not like a thief can't WALK down the road to steal more sh!t from other cars in my old neighbourhood...
That is BS!!!!

That's really weird.. Usually, the pattern states that the further you are from there the lower the premiums, not the other way around... What's the insurance company?

^^ IIII KNOW!!!!!!! Silly me thinking I'd be paying maybe half of what I am now by moving....
Belair... They've been really good to me so far, always been the cheapest. But holy crap!!! AND that's WITH a discount from living closer to work too. Unbelievable.
This entire thread is useless if that short distance can have that much of an impact on someone's premiums.![]()
