You don't "NEED" to remove the bumper, but it makes the job SOOO much easier if you do. Plus, as stated, it's really easy to remove the bumper.
CURRENT: 2009 Subaru Impreza STI | 2007 Mazdaspeed 3 | 2003 Chevy Silverado 2500HD | 2009 BMW X5 3.5d
GONE: Apparently too many cars to list in the signature....
Ok well anyone that feels like taking the hard route won't remove the bumper. It takes no time at all to remove so I would definitely consider it.
is there a how-to on this?
From the top of my head
-Undo the 2-3 screws on each side of the wheelwells
- Undo the 8 hexscrews under the bumper holding the splash shield
- Undo the 4-8 screws in the engine bay
- Reach inside the front wheel well (again both sides) and gently pull the bumper from the alignment clip (close to the corner of headlamp)
Bumper should be hanging loose now
In case I missed something, Feel free to chime in![]()
I tried doing it without removing the bumper and it was a pain in my ass. Taking off the bumper is easy i would recommend anyone to take it off![]()
need to setup a "CAI install" meet
Here is an how-to.

i think i might just sell my injen cai and get a sri...seems easier to install and maintain
lol
thats actually what happened on my last car. and i used the supplied bushings and bolts that AEM provided. and then went through 2 other no name cold airs, just cut that pipe at the bracket and drove it that way then, but that being said the bracket is solid with the frame. and the end that mounts with the intake has a longer space similar to the intakes, and i have the bracket connected to the intake with the supplied AEM bushing bolt. we shall see what happens. hopefully this will hold up with out any failure.
yeh..that thing
which would get better gas milage, CAI, SRI, k&n drop in, or OEM setup
