Default Red Leather Seats - Anybody?

I love red leather seats and I saw that there's a way to paint the seats to red. Has anybody tried this?
I basically want to see how it looks, so even if there's anybody with some Photoshop skills that could help me out that will be great

Here's the video I was talking about: www.youtube.com/watch?v=uoJvdEBYIUA

6-7 coats! oh man id stop after 1. not sure ive ever seen anyone paint leather, but i would think from a long standing point the paint will wear off quickly. i would sooner have the seat material changed to red leather.

I really, really, really, realllllyyyyy wouldnt recommend painting your seats. If you want Red seats buy katzkins red leather seat covers. if you cant afford them, save up for them or move on. You're just going to ruin your interior by painting it. Wont be durable and will just look hella ghetto.

actually watched the video and they're using dye, not "paint". You can probably dye them just fine, but I'd have serious concerns about it's colorfastness unless you completely seal it. Dont want red dye running all over the place whenever it gets wet, or ruining white pants. Then again, you shouldnt be wearing white pants :p

Even though it is dye I wouldn't trust it, could come off on your clothes. Or the finnished result might look blotchy. Staining is not as easy as it looks, you dont just wipe it on and wipe it off.

ide love to see how well perforated seats do with this lol i bet it would be a complete mess even professionally done.

get a cheap set of fake integra type R recaros or something, or s2000 seats...minus the honda logo lol.

honestly if you have to ask about this, you should not do it.

you already switched from cloth stock seats to leather, just switch to aftermarket red seats, dont ruin the stock ones.

I use black dye on my leather seats because there was some scratches when I bought them. It's been almost 1.5 years since I've done this and I never got any black on my clothes (I even wear white pants at times). So I really don't think it will come off.

@standsideways.. what do you mean if I have to ask about this I shouldn't do it? I just want to see if anybody has red leather seats, to see how it looks. I mean it looks nice in other cars, but I'm not really sure how it will look in a mazda and if it fits nice. That's why I'm asking. Like I said with the dye that I used to fix my scratches I had no problems.

I would. But I like to keep it stock looking :$. I don't want it to tacky. That's why I want to see how the red seats look in the mazda to make sure that it doesn't look to tacky if I attempt this.

I still would be careful with the dye, it isn't easy to blend without the blotchy look. You should first try finding a spare piece of leather somewhere and try it on that first and see how the dye turns out. I would never risk using dye though, other than a small touch up like you mentioned.

Fine we will trade cloth for leather and you can skin them with katskin. Lol.

BTW I'm just kidding. I do honestly don't think the red would be nice in the 3. Unless it was totally custom interior.

I think you will have major problems try to dye black seats red. I wouldn't do it.

I found this link http://www.torontomazda3.ca/forum/sh...-leather-seats might give you an idea of what a 3 would look like with red leather.

In terms of dying your seats, I suggest you find a full Mazda 3 seat, from maybe a yard or something. Try dying your new seat, install it, and see how it looks. If you like it, then do the whole thing. If you don't like it, at least you have the relief of not ruining your original seats.

I'd be hesitant to do it. Would be a big expesnive pita if you f up. Even if it turns out, personally I think I'd hate stock red seats. Red seats is something I associate with racing seats or classic cars. Id also be concerned of it wearing off.

For those who don't feel like reading the whole thread at e46fanatics... His car was grey, dyed it to black and red (or imola, as they call it). All credits to Busabos77

He said that after 4 months and a very hot weather, he still has yet to see any stain or such. The company he ordered the paint from said it could last up to 7 years if treated correctly before it starts ripping, not staining.

Again, red on gray might work a lot better than red on black.
