    Default Dashcam via USB

Did a quick search and found nothing.
As most of you are aware, the Gen3 Mazda3's Cigarette Lighter power source is always on. Rather than go through the fuse-route, I'm opting to wire it via an USB cable. I found the following method on read flag deals.
    http://forums.redflagdeals.com/2015-...723/#p25006743

I've tested it the method. The tape does prevent the data feed for working (I also checked the USB documentation as well to be safe). The USB does shut off with the car. The question I have is, the USB provide enough power to the dashcam?
If someone has tried this, I'm going to order a 15 feet usb cable tomorrow.
If no one has tried this, I guess I'll report back in a week.

By "USB Route", you mean plug into the USB port on the car's audio system? That's probably going to be pushing it a bit. Check your camera's specs to see what the current demand is. Your stereo's port probably follows the USB2 standards and can supply up to 0.5A. But that's not really a lot, and is intended to power small USB devices and memory cards.

I'd be concerned for a dead battery if you are going to be keeping the dashcam plugged in all the time. A power regulator will be your best friend.

There is a fuse panel on the drivers side when you open the door. very simple and easy to get to with a power cable to. Just use an add-a-fuse and you're good to go.

That's what we did for our 2015 and the 2017

It should be written on the device, as well as on the charger that came with it. Most cams come with a 1A charger, which is more than the built in USB port will supply.

You're much better off using an add-a-fuse to an ignition fuse as mentioned above.

I used an add-a-fuse and a 12v-USB adapter module for my dashcam.

I power my mobius dashcam with just the usb cable. It comes on with the car and shuts off when the electronics turn off. But this is on a 2016 CX-5, though I imagine usb power would be the same between the CX-5 and the 3.

Currently, the Vanture X1 is holding up, will post again in a week, to ensure the USB port is providing enough power. My other car has the TaoTronics 2k, which needs 2.4A. Hopefully, the X1 isn't such a power hog

Add a circuit with a 12v socket grounded to the frame.
