This seems to be the weak point for the Leafs. Sometimes they feel like lighting up a team as far as 6 or 7 goals and hold off with a shut-out or a 1 GA, then they sometimes feel like blowing leads.
The 3rd period meltdown was WAYYYYY too similar to the Paul Maurice/Ron Wilson era...
At 4-1, I thought the Leafs would have this in the books with the way they were playing in the first 2 periods, especially with 10-12 minutes to go in the 3rd. The 2nd goal by Lucic was such a momentum changer for Bruins to do what they do the best - Puck recovery and net presence. The Leafs gave in and got too cocky.

Congrats to the Leafs, nonetheless. They went in with all odds against them, especially against a Boston team that they had full of trouble during the regular season. Pushing it to game 7 with a team full of playoff rookies is a great sign for the things to come in the future.

Lol its not that at all. My family in Quebec have always been sens fans and my whole family has been Leaf fans so its always been a rivalry between us. Everyone has a hated team and mine has always been the Sens. Just how its always gone. Not butt hurt by any means just enjoyed how the leafs played against them last year. And that they do. I think Canadian teams may do quite well this year. God I can't wait till regular season starts!

If the team was playing better I would agree, but to begin with they were sloppy and too many mistakes were made. I would rather trust in a guy who has been here and knows the pressures of playing in Leaf land than put all my chips on a guy who has been playing backup his whole career and knows nothing of playing in a city like T.O. Bernier has skill but he has yet to prove anything, its only been 3 games. Once he has a bad game people here like they always do to any goalie, wont hesitate to throw him under the bus as well.

The leafs need both goalies to play well if they want to get further than last year.

That Carl Gunnarson is the #2 defencemen on the team, says a lot about the overall talent.
Leads just have not drafted/developed well enough to compete.

I believe the problem is the system employed. You have to coach to the type of talent your have. The Leafs are not a defensive first team. Carlyle had a specific system and it does not jive with the players they have.

What they should do is stop hiring the coach before putting the team together.

Not too sure about the rest of this group but I've dealt with:

the atrocious teams of the 80s where the only highlight was Wendel Clark
that magical stretch in the early 90s with the infamous non-call on Gretzky ( jeebus, it has been 20 years)
the early 2000s teams, adequate but just missing that one intangible piece

As for Shanahan's hiring, there is nothing to base on what his potential performance can be. One can only hope that he can mirror Yzerman's or Dryden's success.

Ill be a leaf fan till the day I die. I'm interested to see how this new leaf team does. We can always hope for the best but who knows, the additions on the off season could make a difference or could make the whole season a flop. Only time will tell.

What do you consider a "true fan" to be exactly. I disagree that leaf fans are true fans, is that just because they support the team when they lose? There are many other passionate hockey cities who support their team just as much, and if they are true fans then why is the ACC lower sections mostly sold out to suits who most of the time tend to either show up later or leave early, and most likely know nothing about the team/players/league in general. Also I would just like to also make the point that not everyone who supports another team chose that team based on hopes of winning. It could be based on the fact that their parents grew up watching that team, a personal meaning, easier access etc..just saying

a) If you support your team through thick and thin, you're a true fan. Leafs fans, if they're under 100 years old, know about supporting a team through adversity haha
b) Because normal people can't afford lower bowl tickets

The reason the lower bowl is sold to suits and not fans is because the Leafs can, Why sell the seat to a fan for $100 to a fan when you could sell it to a suit for $400?
I would maybe be a leafs fan when they respect their fans a little more and start to chose loyalty over money. If thats not the case, why raise ticket prices when the popular teams come to town.....

Yes, now probably as the hockey fans but look at the team over the last 20 years.
They have probably heard that enough and are now going with the young un-proven players in a hope to make the playoffs.
Regardless, I prefer to cheer for players over teams as I do fantasy hockey.

leafs made playoffs untill 04. So really it was only 8-10 years of a "losing team". Leafs have also arguably been in rebuild mode for last 2-3 Seasons.

Keep in mind Chicago went like 9 or 10 years without making the playoffs, then went to win 2 Stanley cups in 4 years.
