In the last 3 months, I've nearly been side swiped 3-4 times.. WTF is wrong with people?!
The latest was today.. I was driving in the right lane.. just minding my own business.. when this total tool bag turned on his signals (while he was beside me) and then just started switching into my lane.. the dingus didn't even look to see if I was there.. and when I honked.. he didn't even slow down.. I had to hit the brakes so I don't get smoked.. I am getting sick and tired of these retards that don't know how to drive.. you would think that if someone is honking at you, you'd realize you're doing something wrong :bang

It's happened to me a lot in recent months too. I try not to drive in people's blind spot since most people don't bother checking before changing lanes.
Ah, road rage. Becoming harder and harder to fight these days..

Maaaan I noticed this the other day in my travel from Peterborough to Hamilton and back. Nearly got hit by 4 different drivers, not checking when they merge or change lanes. I'm glad we have such peppy cars so I can catch up to them and give them a firm middle finger.

This is good defensive driving practice. I don't drive in people's blind spots either. Keeps me out of trouble.

Perfect thread for me to rant in
I was about to pull into a spot, see a girl walking towards the car beside, I nicely let her in the passenger side of her car before pulling in. As soon as she's in the cars begins back up towards me..I lay on the horn but I guess that means move faster to him, at the very very last second he hits the brakes and pulls away, only to give me a look like "you ****ing ******* why you honk at me?!"
If I ever win the lottery I am hireing a driver from city's commutes

No. You pay to "pass" your test! Especially after failing twice trying to explain the merits of learning how to drive makes you a safe driver for all on the road, the appeal of earning a license the old fashioned way went in one ear and out the next.

They need to do license tests more strictly here...
Even when its not snowing there are so many bad drivers.
Lately ive been encountering alot of people who are unable to judge speed and pull onto the roadway infront of me when THEY THINK its safe when its clearly not safe. Each time I had to go on the brakes and honk at them ( generally if I have to do that, then you shouldnt have pulled in)

Or how about the people who drive 40 in a 60 zone because of some light snow? That drives me nuts to.. I was stuck behind some a-hole the other day that was doing exactly that.. and there was zero snow on the ground at this point.. if people are that timid to drive, they really shouldn't drive at all.

Even without snow there can be icy/slippery surface, especially when it's below -10c when the salt doesn't do squat. I have gotten slip in 5th gear (traction control blinking at me, not full on tire spinning, mind you WOT in a speed 3 lol) on the highway that looks clear.

Curious, how old did the driver appear to be?
I'm generalizing here but I have noticed that an increasing number of seniors drive like that, regardless of the weather or road/traffic conditions.

I can testify to your theory. In my teens I use to drive like a bat out of hell. Now in my late twenties, I'll be daring to push past 10+ km over the speed limit or 115+ km on highways. I expect to drive much slower as I age. I guess the older you are, being aware of mortality becomes more apparent lol.

there are times i'm on an empty highway in the middle of the night and when the slight fog around the lamp posts it looks like i'm driving in a tunnel - i swore I was booking it, only to look down and see I was only doing 90-100 lol

Have you not met someone that can't catch a ball no matter how much practise they get?
Driving is a skill that requires natural ability and training... if you lack any ability, it will be hard to train someone with no base skills.
My point was you need a combination of the two, obviously the more you have the better.
1. Natural Ability
2. Training/Experience
Edit: Watching that show makes me nervous lol... Scares me that people can be that bad and right beside you on the road or even worse... the parking lot!

agreed, however there are generally two lanes, and the people that clog up the roadways doing 40 in both lanes drive me nuts...move over if you are going to go that slow...
The people doing 40 in a 60 don't bother me so much as the people doing 40 in an 80 or on the highway because there is a little white fluffy stuff coming down...it's like when it is falling people forget how to drive, or they think the rules of the road stop applying...makes me want to turn my horn on permanently and drive around that way.
Driving to the Airport yesterday in my bosses Jeep to pick up him from the airport was rediculous. I was on the 407 and granted the roads were a bit slippery because there was snow on it...But the amount of people doing 50 on the 407 in the only 3 lanes that were semi clear/driven in was nuts...I just pulled into the 4th/5th lane to give myself lots of room away from them and made my own road...no problem doing 80-100 and was in full control, even when a few of the idiots cut me off at the last second because they decided to switch lanes without looking.
I agree with asyed that licencing should be more strict. I think all tests should be recorded that way it gives transportation Canada the ability to vito decisions made by their examiners. My Sister has failed twice (and she is a decent driver) the first time she got a bitch that is known to always fail people from Barrie, and apparently the second time she made a stupid mistake that she admits. My girlfriend has also failed, and I have personally taught her and seen how she drives and she is a cautious driver, but not half as slow as many other drivers out there, and she got an a-hole examiner who clearly just wanted to go home because it was the last appointment of the day. And ended up yelling at her...I swear if she had talked to me about it while we were there I would have gone back in and punched the guy. But it wasn't until days later she finally talked to me about it. (They made me remove my dash camera from the car during my girlfriends test)
My point is, at least if the tests were recorded, the ministry of transportation could look at the footage and say, wait how did this person pass...they are terrible...or why didn't this person pass and talk to the examiner...or in the case of my girlfriend would be able to hear the examiner yelling commands at my girlfriend...(which they aren't supposed to do)

I blame the privatization of the drive test centers. Biggest money making scam IMO. I feel as if they purposely fail some people just to make an extra $10 off them.
The government should seriously review their practices as well as what is tested. Like send someone in undercover to take the tests at each center.... Or perhaps they should pay them a set amount every month and the money made from the drivetest fees goes straight to government.
Hiring stubborn old retirees don't help either. The first time I went I got some really stubborn old man who really hated his job. He failed me. The next time I got a very motivated old man who was extremely easy going and he passed me despite accidently hitting the curb when hill parking...

i always say you have to watch out more for the people around you because i've had some pretty amazing scares in front of me. just recently i was getting on to the 427 north from the 401 east doing about 60 on the ramp as it was the day after that first big snowfall we got and there was a small car infront of me doing about a buck on the ramp and the guy just spun out right infront of my eyes. the things we see could easily be avoided if people just actually paid attention to road conditions

Thing is they were just driving by and we had crossed each others paths before them suddenly finding the spot ( I honestly don't get how he didn't see the spot before passing it and having to back up to get to it.... From where he was coming from there was no way a normal person could not see the spot... There were no cars blocking his view of the spot).... He certainly was not waiting for the spot.... More like seeing a spot that's about to be taken and trying to get to it before the other guy does....

If they came after you already parked in and weren't even in the same row, then I can say they were pricks.

the red box is the sri lankans car at the moment I located the spot
The dashed arrow behind him indicates his direction of travel prior to us crossing paths
the blue box is me about to turn in into the spot.
How he didnt see the spot based on his direction of travel is beyond me. One would assume that he was exiting the lot T(he exit of the lot was almost infront of the guy) based on his direction and speed. if he was driving slow enough as to show that he is looking for a spot then id understand... but he was driving as if he was about to leave. No driving very slowly and looking around or anything. If I were him... I would have seen that spot earlier and have pulled in before I had reached the spot( which makes me think he was fairly inattentive too and not looking around much)

The cops will come, arrest them, tow the car, and then you take the spot free and clear :o

Well this is MUCH CLEARER lol.. with this depiction, you were definitely in the right to take that spot.
I'm surprised you backed down.. I wouldn't have.. all you would've had to do was call campus security and tell them you think you saw a gun..
The cops will come, arrest them, tow the car, and then you take the spot free and clear :o
honestly I wasnt in the mood to argue and sort paper work out. Plus people are messed up. You never know what kind of stuff people do these days... especially people from south asia ( i speak from experience lol... there was one time i witnessed a 3 car fender bender pileup in my home country and the guy in the middle got out of his car... went up to the driver of the car in the very back that caused it.... and choked the crap out of him while yelling furiously..). Worst case scenario one of them could have had a gun or other weapon and physically injured me... I cant afford to spend even a few days in the hospital.

Well now those guys know you're a push over.. first a parking spot.. next they'll be shaking you down for your wallet, iPod, laptop, books, etc.
Gotta man up bro.. if these kids go to school, they won't be shooting you or doing anything stupid; they would get kicked out of school for that and lose their tuition.

Wow. Such bad advice.
Seriously asyed. You chose wisely. Your not a big guy and you don't have a chip. That doesn't mean you shouldn't stand up for yourself, just choose your battles wisely.
Granted I rarely heed my own advice, im the guy who haules someone out of a car for cutting me off then being an ass about it ( cuts me off then gives me the finger when I honk) But thats me. Not you.

I'm just buggin' him; not giving actual advice.
Personally, I wouldn't argue with someone over a parking spot either; it's too trivial.
But if I was leaving the parking lot, and they just so happen to be walking by when I was leaving and there was a puddle near, I may accidentally drive into that puddle throwing the water at them..

Unless you want to get beaten..lol... If the srilankan dudes file the case against cops for harassment and false arrest, you will be called as witness and then the mess starts. Need to starting thinking of the consequences.

Tis another day and I saw another dumb a-hole on the road. The guy went into the far right lane, realized it's not where he wanted to be, and then decided to switch 3 lanes. One of which I was in.. The driver nearly side swiped me (what else is new) before pulling back a bit and going behind me to the other lane. I'm just baffled as to how stupid people are. It's getting so bad that I don't even have words to explain this level of stupidity. It's as if winter hits and the IQ's of thousands just plummets.

Today on my way to work up in shelburne i was behind a black mazdaspeed3 (not Ami.... I hope) on country roads. Said speed sees me and begins to drive slower and when the road turns into 2 lanes i began my overtaking manouver. The asswipe sees this and speeds up so im forced to get back into his lane as there is a car in front of me now. I had to cut the speed off because i knew this asswipe wanted a pissing contest, i was already pressed for time and was not about to be late. Bad driving on both our parts. Him for being a douche, me for cutting him off.

I honestly cannot believe some of the people that manage to get their license..
Driving on Dundas today, middle lane, just about to cross the intersection, as I see a silver civic ready to make a right onto Dundas. As it turns out, the driver was more than ready to just jump right into the middle lane as I had just entered into the intersection doing 60, slow right down almost to a stop causing me to slam on my brakes (luckily no cars directly behind), and then switches to the left most lane to turn into some plaza. I never lay on my horn, as I only really use it to stop people from making these mistakes in advanced, but I laid the horn so hard you would be sure it became pregnant.
As I pull up beside the car to check who the driver is, stereotypically, it turned out to be a young Asian female.
And that's my story for the day.

Lol. Have you seen how Asians drive in Asia? If you drove there, you would fear for your life every day. It's crazy! Speeding and reckless driving is the norm over there and they bring that driving style to Canadian roads. Why.. Because all you need is a license from another nation to drive here. If you have one, they give you your G immediately which I think is a mistake. Everyone should take the 3 step program to being fully licensed.

my parents are from Hong Kong, they had to take the exam here when they came here 28 years ago. Did they recently changed that? My parents carried international license and it's only valid for a few months if I remember correct.

Nope. It doesn't work like that. I'm from that part of the world. I had to give all the same driving tests as you. Only difference was that the waiting period between g1 and g2 was removed as I had over 2yrs driving experience. So after clearing g1, you can straight go to G2. But only if you have more than 2yrs driving experience from any other country. And international license is only valid for 6 months, after that you have to give the normal driving tests.

This stuff is so true. I'm lucky that I got home in one piece today. A caucasian man in his 30s maybe drove a ford fusion made a right turn and didn't stay in his lane. Pushed me into the on coming traffic, braking wasn't even an option he was going at my side mirror. Total F.Tard.

Coming home from work today.. within 2 minutes of leaving.. I'm cruising down the road minding my own business when some stupid a-hole decided that he's not going to wait for traffic to clear and zoomed out infront of me.. If I wasn't paying attention, I would have t-boned this stupid a-hole.. I've never laid on my horn more than I have this winter.. it's unbelievable.. I also saw another douche almost get t-boned while I was waiting to turn into the LCBO. The guy going straight had the right of way and this donkey just pulled out infront of him to turn left.. he's lucky he didn't get smoked.. I don't know what it is about people this winter but their intelligence just isn't there.. I wish I was a cop because if I was.. I would be pulling many people over for careless driving.
Well...I've had my fair share of "bad driver" experiences...but this one was new..
So I'm putting about this evening, minding my own business, in a two lane road, when I see up ahead in the distance a driver in the left lane that seems to be holding everyone up. Same shit, different day. Whatever, happens all the time. I try getting around, but no luck. Road ends up turning to one lane, and I end up behind said driver. The road is a 60...and they're going about 30. They've clearly earned the title of "retarded" now, driving half the speed limit for a few blocks now. So I decide to flash a couple highbeams. Hint not received. A minute later, I try a honk. Still no increase in speed. Do I have a hot temper? Maybe. Am I impatient? Maybe. But I decided to have a little fun. So started instigating a bit by getting closer..ie tailgating. Not too much though, I`d say I kept about a quarter car length lol :P Anyway, this went on for a bit, and they finally pull to the side and let me and the others piled behind me pass by. Cool, retard crisis averted; right? Wrong. Turns out they had a bit of a hot temper too. Road turns into a two lane, and approaching a red light with cars already waiting, I pull behind a waiting car in the left lane. Said retarded driver pulls behind car in right lane, ironically, right next to me. Rolls window down, gives the finger. Meh, I ignore it. Middle-aged woman decides to open her door, get out, smack my door, reach for the handle, and open my passenger door. WTF. Opens the door, sticks her head in and goes "next time, maintain your distance." I'm sitting there going "wtf is happening; get the hell out of my car" and simultaneously going "haha your car is rolling away lady, but you can't see it." Turns out while she was facing me, her car started rolling back. Light turns green. She slams my passenger door. In an effort to not hold up traffic behind me, I start going ahead, only to see in my rear-view mirror, this woman try and slow her car down by grabbing her open drivers door. Looked like the car eventually hit the one behind it before she could hop in.
I found this kinda entertaining lol. A lesson to all...don't instigate :P I admit I was in the wrong, but going 30 on a 60 for that long of a distance without adjusting your speed being given hints (ie highbeams and honks) from the cars behind you almost makes you deserve to be tailgated. My passenger door doesn't seem to be damaged, but I'm not sure I'd be able to say the same about her rear bumper :)

Same here. Gs sedan with power locks, but don't auto lock thankfully.
Driving woes:
- people never stopping at stop signs
- weaving + tailgating
- I pass someone slow, they (usually a guy) pass me back out of spite and slow down again.
- changing lanes without checking blind spot
- no such thing as safe following distance
The list will never end. These are just daily driver issues I see going to school. As long as people are impatient, they will cut corners and ignore traffic law.

I was cruising in my lane again coming up to a set of lights (but I wanted to turn left before the lights into a plaza).. and this jerk off.. pulls out another plaza before my turn and nearly t-bones me.. there was traffic behind me and infront of me.. like I don't know what the hell this guy was thinking.. is my car invisible or something? Do people really have a hard time seeing a grey/silver Mazda3?! I'm almost afraid to go out and drive anywhere because it seems like everywhere I go, there is some a-hole trying to ram into me, drive out infront of me, or side swipe me.. I have waaay too many stories in such a short time frame for this to be normal..

Scariest thing that happened to me was a couple years ago on Highway 24 from Cambridge to Brantford. It's mostly 1 lane, with a few sections for passing. Not sure why this happened, possible the driver was drunk/high, but a red pickup was closing the gap behind me very quickly. He caught up and attempted to pass me in a non-passing area but there were 4 or 5 cars in front of me plus some oncoming traffic heading into Cambridge. He ended up swerving back over right in front of me, whilst slamming on the brakes, forcing me onto the gravel shoulder. Even with the abs kicking in, I wasn't able to slow down enough and ended up passing him on the shoulder. For some reason, he got extremely pissed off at this. Maybe he thought I was intentionally trying to race/stay in front of him?
Anyway, for the next kilometer or so he was constantly brake-checking me a d driving at 30-50km/h when the limit is 80. The southbound side of 24 opens up to two lanes for a small uphill section, and this douche didn't let anyone pass him. He was swerving between the two lanes, holding up myself and the line of cars behind me. Eventually he floored it, pulled off to the shoulder where the two lanes switched back to a single line. He got out of the truck and threw a bottle of sprite or something at my car as I drove past.
Another time, I was in the left turn lane at a red light. The lady in front of me started fumbling around for something in her back seat. She didn't notice her car rolling forward and she ended up mounting the small curb/sidewalk thing and driving into the light post. Lol. Then she just casually back up like nothing happened and drove off when the light turned green.

Accident in a roundabout. Around 1 am, after a late movie, the cars from the theatre were going out. There are some roundabouts in the lot (Ira Needles in kitchener). A snowplow had blocked one of the exits of the roundabout with snow and was just turning around up ahead to come back. The car in front of me stopped, threw it in reverse, and back her car into mine. You would not believe how angry she was that I didn't move out of the way. "What's wrong with you! Don't you see the snow plow!?" If it wasn't a girl, I probably would have hit her. I explained, as calmly as I could, that instead of backing up in the roundabout, she should have continued around the circle and taken a different exit.
Fortunately, she was driving slowly in reverse and her bumper ended up hitting my wheel (I tried to pull to the right since I couldn't back up due to the traffic behind me). No damage to my car.

I think one of my biggest annoyances since I started commuting 60km to work, was that people don't respect the speeds on highways. Everyone sits in the fast lane, doing about 105, when the rest of the highway is open, I spend most of my time in the slow lane passing those people. I just don't understand, it's the fast lane, if everyone who wasn't going fast would get out of it, it would work a lot better.
Also, people who don't clean there car off piss me off so much, I have to replace part of my mirror because ice flew off a car on the 403 Wednesday and broke it, and when I got up beside the guy to get him to pull over, he just shrugged it off, and I think I even saw a bit of a smirk. People on the roads are asses.
Last night I drove from Woodstock to Oakville, I had no issues at all. Cruise at 110 the entire way, passing when I needed too, staying in the slow lane when people were going faster than me. If people didn't have the mindset I'll stay in the fast lane cause it's faster, maybe the highways would be better.
One last thing, when did high beaming someone from behind lose it's meaning as get the hell out of the lane! I had a company vehicle from Tapout Burlington, going 105 in the fast lane, I flashed twice, and nothing, I speed up to pass him, and he decides to tailgate me, even to street racing speeds, then I pulled to the slow lane in traffic, followed him to the place of business. Like how can you be that stupid to be in a company vehicle like that?

+1 on the lost meaning of flashing high beams. Probably those drivers think you're just saying hello :p
Also, there are too many people driving with high beams on recently. In days like yesterday with too much water and puddles on the ground causing glare at night, I drove blind for around 50 meters because of some douche in oncoming traffic. Couldn't even tell if I was in my lane and couldn't see the solid yellow line either. Almost had a head on collision.

I think those people driving around with their high beams think they are cool and want to be like their HID brethren.. Unfortunately for their stupid asses, HID's aren't high beams.. So it just blinds the shit out of everyone. Police can ticket people for driving around with their high beams on. It's not allowed in the city.

Yes. The weird part is that some don't have a single light on. Not even their drls. So hard to see these guys. Even when I highbeamed them or turned off my lights, they still couldn't get the hint.

How do you even tell them to turn their lights on anymore.? Flashing high beams does nothing.
But new cars driving with no running lights also, how are all of their lights off?

I normally get behind them and flash my brights ( or sometimes "flicker" my headlights if i feel the brights will be unsafe ) as a gesture to turn on their lights... but that only works 25% of the time lately...
so I dont even bother anymore...

So coming home today on the 400 Im driving about 5 or 6 car lengths behind a pickup truck in the fast lane. Going at around 120 kph ( same speed as guy infront of me). Out of nowhere, just a few cars ahead, some guy gets cut off by some idiot going very slow... everyone ahead jams on their brakes and so do I.... I had to brake so hard that I could feel my seatbelt tightening a bit and my ABS kicking in. Scariest shit Ive ever been in behind the wheel... I thought I was gonna rear end the guy infront of me because of one loser who thought it would be a good idea to pull into the fast lane at a much slower speed.
The rest of the way I was a bit paranoid of running into more idiots like him ( it was heavy traffic too) that I kept a big enough gap for a semi to fit in between us.

I spend a alot of time on the road (90,000-100,000 K a year) and i have to admit the absoulte worst drivers are in toronto i dread everytime i have to go down to the city for a service call, they all drive slow in the fast land, do not get the concept of high beam flash when doing 105 in fast lane means move over please, and then when theres a small amount of snow well its just pathetic how bad most of the drivers are, and i agree the not cleaning snow off your vechile before travel is the worst, chunks of ice costed me 2 windsheilds last winter.

had this happen to me 3 days ago:
I am on the 427 south and a guy in a Buick is entering the highway from Rexdale and for some unknown weird reason goes instantly all the way from the right lane to the fast lane in a 3 lane highway and does not once go higher then 100-105. He then remains in the fast lane at about 105 and pisses off everyone behind him including me.

I think people automatically assume that if they get rear ended its always the other guys fault.... so they brute force it... or they just dont bother....
Whats worse is when people see you coming faster than them but pull in anyways ( sometimes without blinker) then expect you to keep a safe distance when you are already on their ass because they were driving too slow. My parents constantly yell at me for this even though its the other guys fault for failing to judge speed.

I had an asian friend tell me that his parents and other family members consider the passing lane as the prestigious lane...it is more prestigious to drive in that lane so they do...apparently they are being taught that in driving school as well...baffles me. This is also why there seems to be a disproportionately large portion of gold corolla drivers that are terrible, because apparently when they come here and can buy a car Toyota is a familiar brand, is one they recognize and was a sign of success where they came from...and Gold is very prestigious...it all makes sense!

As far as insurance is concerned, when you are rear-ended the other vehicle is always 100% at fault.

<SNIP>
Irony is when you complain about people not respecting the speeds on highways and your complaint is that they aren't breaking the law enough for your tastes.

Not exactly.
The law is one thing, the insurance is another.
Stupid example:
If I decide that I feel like coming to a complete stop on in the middle of the 401 on a clear day with minimal traffic and I get hit from behind; my insurance is going to find me not at fault. I would be hard pressed to think the police would not issue me some form of ticket (dangerous/careless/impeding traffic, (or whatever, take your pick)).
In this case, the law would find me at fault (hence the ticket) but insurance would not find me at fault.

One of my peeves: people who are going to turn left........ eventually. I take Steeles westbound out of Brampton in the morning. Inevitably there are one or two cars in the right lane (or often it is a truck) going 5-10 km under the limit, with most of the lane wide open, while the left lane is packed bumper to bumper, also stuck going 10 under the limit. Why: for some reason people are so unconfident in their ability to change lanes for their upcoming left turn that they drive for 5 or 10 km in the left lane.

this is not true, I got in an accident that wasn't my fault where I technically rear ended someone...but the insurance ended up finding it his fault...
Irony is when you complain about people not respecting the speeds on highways and your complaint is that they aren't breaking the law enough for your tastes.
-Geoff
Also, regardless about how speeding is breaking the law...there are other rules of the road that by cruising in the passing lane those people are breaking the law anyways. If someone wants to do 130km/h they technically should be able to and deal with the consequences themselves when the drive past a cop...just like people not moving out of the passing lane should be ticketed for that as well.

Fault determination rules will always dictate the rear-ender to be at fault. You may dispute the fault and end up with another result.

In my commute everyday ( Clair and Gordon/ highway 6 to QEW and Appleby Line) I have seen so many stupid drivers its just unbelievable. Hell 4 months ago some lady in a brand new Honda Civic was behind me in the fast lane on the QEW just before the bridge at Guelph Line and it was gridlock. We moved about a car length and bam rear ended me. She comes out omg I'm so sorry I was reading a book and didn't realize how close I was. Say whaaat? Reading a book in traffic. That's just a fantastic idea. Good news was she just put a mark in my plate cover and I crunched in her license plate right in. My favorite idiots are the people who don't like to be stuck in traffic so they decide to pass everyone on the onramps. Seen multiple people actually pass people on the on ramps from Appleby all the way to Guelph Line. Really? Sometimes if I'm in the slow lane ill move over to partially on the on ramp so they can't pass. But my ultimate favorite was one day I was heading to Toronto to drop somebody off and I got onto the collectors going through the tunnel from the 401 to get to the 427 and sitting waiting in traffic and 4 Indian guys in a Toyota Corolla drove along the shoulder and passed me and cut me right off getting into my lane almost taking out my front end and I have never wanted to get outta my car so bad as these *******s in the back are looking at me pointing and laughing. I really wish punching someone out for driving like an asshat were legal sometimes. /end rant.

This happens to me all too often when I'm in my RX-7. The 7 is low enough that the roofline is below the bottom window sill of nearly all pickup trucks and SUV's. I'll be driving beside them and they'll just move over without looking thinking nothing is there because they can't see me in their peripheral vision. If only they'd do a shoulder check...

I don't think I should disclose on what I did. Just think what you'll do when you were in my shoes. That is, a pickup bullied his way into you, not your lane, but you. You were right beside him. Gave him a the benefit of the doubt, a fair warning with Hellas. He still decided to Push you onto the shoulder, not slowly but jabbed his way in. Maybe I just let this one slide.

I drove into the ditch today.
I work at the Toyota plant in Cambridge. We have normal roads around the plant, and a private company plows them. This morning, they were way behind due to the weather. A guy was driving towards me on "his" side of the road, and I was keeping to"my" side of the road. As we passed each other I went off I to the ditch Lol.
Not really anyone at fault, since the snow drifts were so ridiculous. No damage done either. And rav 4s have some messed up awd/traction control. Getting back on the road, the rear wheels were just alternating power/spinning. Pretty useless.

To much power for the g1 driver that stole his dads truck. Side swiped 2 cars and almost took out an older couple, a kid and a couple store clerks. . Then kept on the gas while wedged in the store. What about the people who brake when they change lanes?
On my way to work this morning, just after 5am, we were literally the only two cars on the highway. I'm clearly closing the gap with this guy, I change lanes to the right (to pass him and because there's a spare Lane before the off ramp). He decides to wait until I'm immediately behind him in the other lane to change in front of me. He tapped the brakes during the lane change, enough to drop about 10km/h. So, up next is the actual off ramp.. I wait back a bit, and sure enough, he hits the brakes as he gets onto the off ramp lane, then speeds back up again lol.
Yesterday, I was trying to get on the highway. There was a car purposely blocking me. I sped up/slowed down a few times before cutting him off and brake checking him lol. Like, **** off. I'm a complete stranger who did nothing except drive near you during your childish little fit.

Then they high beamed me before speeding around my car. They cut me off again doing about 100kmph and completely slammed on the brakes. I stopped in time. Then I figured I'd better change lanes and when I tried, the SUV tried to swerve in front of me causing me to have to change two lanes. What is wrong with people?

Trying to turn left into a plaza. People are driving down the center: through oncoming left hand turn lanes just so they don't have to sit in traffic for 20 seconds. I couldn't even get into my left hand turn lane because there was a car occupying it going the opposite direction. Horn applied.

The worst is trying to get onto the highway from Weber Street there. You basically have to floor it because even people in the far right lane are doing 120. Then there are the people who wait until the last possible second to change lanes and come perilously close to smashing the barrier apart.

I find it hilarious and also painful to watch people try and navigate roundabouts in my subdivision. They arent even complex 2 laned ones either but everyone has a tendency to just come to a complete stop and no one knows if they are in the right of way and have seen cars going around the roundabout just stop thinking they dont have the right of way. Theres a reason theres a yield sign there instead of a stop sign.
Also it seems that signalling at roundabouts is not mandatory and it seems like im the only one who knows the proper ways to signal when going around one like this :

It simply too easy to pass a driving test in Ontario as there are very few Driver Examiners that know how to properly perform their job or actually care. Ministry of Transportation believes that they are doing a good job because injury and death rates are down. You don't have to collide with someone or something to be a bad driver, as other may have avoided you.
Contact the Minister of Transportation and let them know what you think. For those that believe that it is a waste of time, in the early 2000's senior citizens had to complete a driving test at age 70 or once they reached the age of 65 and were involved in an at fault collision. They coordinated their efforts which included letter writing, contacting journalists, pooled their funds to take MTO to court forcing government to change law. Today no such requirement.
Independently all we can do is complain but together we can get these dummies off of our roads.
asyed
11-19-2014, 12:08 AM
If we ever make the driving test any harder we are just going to get a whole bunch of people complaining its too hard. North American society is and will always be mostly a "nanny state" in which stricting up laws will cause more complainers compared to those in favour of it.
Road etiquette also needs to be taught. For example... the middle lane is not the driving lane ( despite what people think). It is infact a secondary ( or primary depending on how you look at it) passing lane. Too often do I see people get on the highway and immeaditly go for the center lane when theres no traffic and averaging about 110 ( sometimes even 100). If they were actually passing alot of people it would be fine but too many times I see people doing 100 in the center lane ( extremely dangerous) and people ending up passing them on the right ( even more dangerous). The only time I would think that its acceptable to be constantly in the center lane is if there are alot of trucks/ slower traffic on the road at the time and you are going at a speed that is significantly greater (115-120 ish) and/or there is an onramp coming up and you want to let others in. But doing 100 in any lane but the right lane is unacceptable as it either causes a more dangerous situation of passing on the right ( not everyone knows not to pass on the right) or it slows down traffic in general ( picture 1 car doing 100 in the slow lane and another doing the same speed in the center lane..... and a 3rd car trying to pass them both in the fast lane at 110.... sounds far fetched but I have experienced it first hand).

true... but the amount of bad drivers is too damn high.
If you go across the pond to european countries you will notice that there are very few bad drivers as they are much more strict on the rules, people arent all selfish , and have proper driver education.
Just traveling on a motorway in sweden I was amazed that for the entire length of the trip every car that passed my bus went right back into the right lane ( it was a 2 lane motorway) immediately after instead of hogging the passing lane. Even in the urban areas there was pretty much no left lane hogs.
Also everyone.... I have recently discovered that some drivers do not understand the verbage "Right of Way" as in...Those turning right, go first at a light. Pretty simple.
Had too many people try to turn left and squeeze beside me while I'm turning right. Wait. It's that simple.
Who else swears like a sailor during these moments?
Not enough information provided.
If the road you're turning onto has two lanes in each direction then you are required to turn from the right lane into the rightmost lane, the person turning left may do so at the same time into the leftmost lane.
If there is only one lane in each direction, you have the right of way.

Fan fiction is fun.
Driver examiners do not work for the province of Ontario. Ontario has outsourced driver testing to a private company. Driver examiners are not accountable to the Ministry of Transportation.
Ontario has NEVER made seniors do a driving exam at 70 or at 65 if they've had an at-fault loss. The ministry of transportation does not keep track of who has had accidents or who is at fault for them. Wander down to your local Service Ontario location and ask for your accident history report, they'll happily tell you that they don't have that information.
There was no campaign to change this "law" as it didn't exist.
Furthermore, Ontario DOES have requirements TODAY for seniors to go through drivers license retesting every two years once they reach the age of 80.
This has to be one of the more inaccurate posts I've ever read.

true... but the amount of bad drivers is too damn high.
EVERYONE there uses their turn signal. meanwhile here in NA people make dumb excuses like " I dont see why I should signal" or " Im too lazy to signal" or " But it makes me look like a badass when i change lanes without signalling and signalling makes me look like a noob" ( Heck I even had someone tell me "why the hell do you signal into a parking spot?? you look like a new driver" .... to which i say that im doing it because thats what you do in the driving test and that it signals my intentions to back into the spot.)
Yet you're the same guy who posts a dashcam video of yourself going at least 20km/h over the limit coming around a corner where oncoming traffic can't see you and you complain that someone turning left in front of you is making the mistake.

But incoming traffic did see me. The car that went before him was fine and saw me. The 2nd car had bad judgement and turned even though he (at least should have) saw me coming.

No idea what you guys are talking about... But I signal in parking lots. Many reasons for that. One is the fact that it isn't that difficult :/ The finger hits the switch as I turn the wheel anyway.
On another note... Let's say there is an intersection like this:
http://i.imgur.com/unSpsgN.png
Pretty common, right? 2 lanes on one side, only one lane on the other. And that lane is positioned kinda in the middle of the two... The two lanes (from which I drew arrows) aren't actually indicated as separate lanes. Nor to they have any markings. So if you wanna go straight... Which lane should you be in? I do see people going straight from the right side. Which I believe to be correct? Left turning traffic keeps left, while people going straight and right, are on the right side?
Occasionally I see someone from the left side, just go straight... It's a near collision every single time :/

I agree and would think the same......and if I were coming from the left merging to the right, I should engage my signal lights.

You answered it yourself.
"The two lanes (from which I drew arrows) aren't actually indicated as separate lanes."
That means it's one lane. If someone from the "left" side goes straight, this is perfectly legal. The "right" person is committing the offence "Improper use of divided highway" (passing on the right).
Just because a lane is wide, it doesn't make it two lanes.

See this all the time in my area due to poor markings. I nearly got sideswiped by a minivan trying to go straight from the left turn lane. He/she definitely got a hornful on that one.

You still can't pass someone on the left. Let's say it's a residential street with enough room for parking plus one lane of traffic. If I happen to be driving alone the right side of the lane because there are no parked cars, that doesn't mean people can start driving on my left as if there are two separate lanes.

Correct.
When there is one lane, there is one lane. Even if the lane is wide enough for two cars, you may not pass within the lane.
Nowhere in my previous post was I indicating that anyone was allowed to pass anyone.

In fact, you ARE allowed to pass someone on their left at any point in time. Even on "double-solid" lines. Just make sure you follow the rules for passing as per the HTA. I looked it up.
Still, can't treat it as two lanes and have two cars driving side-by-side, for example, unless the car on the left is actively passing the car on the right.

Not at *all* points in time:
HTA:
Driving to left of centre prohibited under certain conditions - 149.
(1) No vehicle shall be driven or operated to the left of the centre of a roadway designed for one or more lines of traffic in each direction,
(a) when approaching the crest of a grade or upon a curve in the roadway or within 30 metres of a bridge, viaduct or tunnel where the driver’s view is obstructed within that distance so as to create a potential hazard in the event another vehicle might approach from the opposite direction; or
(b) when approaching within 30 metres of a level railway crossing.
Exception
(2) Subsection (1) does not apply,
(a) on a highway divided into clearly marked lanes where there are more such lanes for traffic in one direction than in the other direction;
(b) to a road service vehicle where precautions are taken to eliminate the hazard; or
(c) on a highway while it is designated for the use of one-way traffic.

I think a lot of it is just to do with respect. For whatever reason, Canadians really aren't that nice, not like we think we are anyway. Yes there are bad drivers (I'll get to that in a second) but driving home yesterday (a 40 minute trip without traffic (1hr with traffic) turned into 3.5 hours) I just noticed the aggression and "ONLY ME" attitude from so many people. People riding your tail when there's no where really to go. I'm paranoid because I already got rear ended this year, and its not like I'm going slow, snow tires on a Subaru I'm not getting stuck but I'm driving at a safe pace. People see a tiny gap and then try to pass, cut you off then realize that "oh, there are other cars in front of you".
The bad drivers do exist yes.. and I do think that some really should make sure they stick to the rules of the road like staying to the right if you can. Furthermore, if your driving skills and confidence are not up there, please invest as much as you can to ensure your safety and the safety as others including things like driver training, and snow tires in the winter. Safe for others but safe for you as well.
Just wish Canadian drivers (at least in the GTA) were more reflective of our national stereotype.

Define "worst driving"
This is something that can't be looked up because there is no scientific or government body that keeps track of every time Person A cuts off Person B, or when Person A changes lanes without signalling or drives aggressively.
Things that *can* be tracked are traffic tickets or accidents. If you look up data on this, you'll find that more accidents occur in areas of higher population density. Tickets occur more frequently as well, but differences in the sizes of police forces and allocation of officer resources must also be taken into account.

You could quantify it but knowing the political backlash, no one in their right mind would conduct a study of this kind.
I can tell you right now... Driving in Calgary with lots a lots of Canadians (aka people who families that have lived in Canada for at least 1 generation) is waaaaaay different then driving in the GTA where the FOBS are.
Driving in any geographic area takes time and patience to learn the roads... some are naturally good at it and most people need to practice.
Take a person from a country where cars are not commonly driven/owned (taxis + business vehicles) and then give them a driver's license in the GTA and see how it goes.
This goes for all shapes, colours and sizes. Bad drivers are always going to be around. Especially with a driver's license being so easy to get around here and the stupid highway designs.

I'm not sure if I'm supposed to be offended by that being of immigrant descent myself. Was the post to intentionally imply that immigrants as a whole are bad drivers? That would be an interesting read none the less.
I'm not sure if I could even look that up if I tried. I will admit though that immigrants tend to gravitate towards high density metropolitan areas mainly because of jobs, culture, and really, diversity that they need. The problem though is that these areas, due to their nature also have high traffic with other people commuting from other areas (non immigrants?) that would travel through as well. How do you filter then? Could the sheer fact that there's a high density population change things? More buildings, crosswalks, cars, people, buses? Lots of potential data sets there that could skew your claim.
For the record, I'm not disagreeing with you, I do think that some cultures just aren't used to driving and once they can here, it is chaos. With that said, I think bad drivers are bad drivers (as someone said above), and that they can come from any background and any culture and any generation of Canadian. The same can be said of good drivers and average drivers.
Good drivers also mean different things to different people. Is someone who cuts someone off precisely and is able to control themselves but reeks havok on the roads a good driver?? They're OK getting through.. people behind them may not but that doesn't matter right? I ask that because in these "third world" countries, sometimes its almost lawless and people do crazy things to get from point A to B.

This is subjective and anecdotal.
Studies *have* been done by the industry and have found no statistically measurable difference in claims rates based upon race or ethnic background.
What was interesting and is still in force today despite a challenge the the Ontario Human Rights Commission (which failed) was that there *is* a statistically measurable difference in claims rates between men and women between the ages of 16-25. Men pay higher rates in this age bracket. Is this not sexism? Is sexism not illegal in business practices? If I were to post prices for men and women in a restaurant and charged more for one than the other, would this not cause an uproar?
This was challenged by a pair of fraternal twins. Born the same day, licensed the same day, shared the same car, same address, etc. The only difference was that one was male and one was female. The male paid more for insurance than his sister and challenged this legally as a violation of his human rights.
This challenge failed, as the industry was able to show a clear, measurable and distinct difference in the statistical probabilities between young men and women.
Insurance has looked into scenarios like this on many different factors including race, ethnicity and length of time in country and hasn't been able to make a case.

As a brown man , I would like to apologize for my race's poor excuse of driver education back home as well as unwillingless to learn proper road etiquette.
Im not even being racist because its extremely true. Driver education back home sucks completely and law enforcement is shitty in general. Its common practice to bribe the police officer out of a ticket... should you be unlucky enough to get pulled over.
As a result alot of Brown people ( mostly those that learned to drive back home) are overtly aggressive drivers as they are back home.
Im not too sure about this but at one point there was even a scam going around where people literally paid for their license and didnt have to take a drivers test because they knew someone at MTO.

Nowhere did I say anything about race. I mentioned immigrants because they have already become accustomed to a certain culture, rules, etc, which are likely different than what we have here in Canada.
An example would be someone from England moving to Canada. Right hand drive, left side of the road, is sure to be a habit that needs breaking. It's safe to assume that if you've got muscle memory, habits, etc, that you won't be able to adjust overnight.
