Ouch but city driving bites you like that sometimes. Take a look at the info button for your real time gas mileage when you're driving in the city sometimes and you'll see what's going on. Idling and starting and stopping really slams it. I cringe when I get stuck in traffic on the highway because I know it's killing my mileage.Quote:

That is pretty much the mileage I am seeing for winter driving now, 8.2-8.7L/100km for the last 3 fill-ups. Quite a drop from from the 6.4-6.6L/100km I was getting in the summer. I did notice a slight increase in consumption when I put the winter tires on at the end of October but once the snow started piling up the fuel gauge really started to drop fast.Quote:

We get 9-10L/100km depending on how cold it is these days and depending on mix of city-hwy driving... Somewhat surprized by bad gas milage on 2.3L engine as my Maxima gets the same consumption figures on a V6 3.0L engine. Go figure...
If you only fill up at quarter tank, and you are getting 520km out of it--- You are getting extremely good gas mileage. I get like 400 out of about 48-49 litres of gas.Quote:

I drive a Mazda 3 GS sedan manual in hwy and country & city but mostly hwy/country. I plug it in for the cold nights and have a timer turn on to heat up the engine block one hour before I'm leaving for work because I live in the country & have to go 80-90 km/h right out of my driveway. It makes a difference as my mileage stays pretty much consistent. I'm driving in the snowbelt with 15" Michelin X-ice snow tires on as well.

My Gf's 2.3 gets around 400km even in the summer and its auto. Its really weird. I dont even know why. I get at least 500km (manual) and this is now in the winter with the heat and everything on
I got 10.3 ave this time in my 2.0L auto, 90% city driving...I think it's a bad gas mileage for the 2.0L engine.
yeah that's pretty crap for a 2.0 GS, IMO. i get that on my GT. (2.3)

Only had my car since early February, but I do a lot of hwy driving with some city driving on the weekend - and I seem to be averaging about 500km a tank.
Got this car in early Feb and did the first fill up last night. Car is still under 1000km so it's not "broken-in" yet and it's cold winter too.
I would say 50/50 city/highway. I averaged 9.17L/100km (calculated from the pumps not the trip computer), which extrapolates to about 600km for full 55L tank. Not bad, but should be better after engine is "broken-in" and warmer.
I am only getting 325-340km per tank before the light comes on.. i got the car in december it has 4000km on it now.. which sucks =(

suprisingly I'm average 10.6L/100KM after 4 fillups now as the clicks keep on going. Not sure if it was the Royal Purple I fed my engine or maybe I need to see what it will turn out at years end. I do know for sure I have done more highway driving this year *t.o to sauga* with my special friend so not sure if it has anything to do with the highway driving since I would be oing 90% city 10% highway.
This coming from the person that downshifts to 3rd @ 120km/h, believes that all normal people think that engine braking is far better than.. pedal braking, and feels the need to race every honda/vw they see?Quote:

Actually you're both right.
Neither of you specified what gallons.
1 IMPERIAL Gallon = 4.54L
1 US Gallon = 3.78L
There is actually a difference between the 2. If you search the Mazda Canada and Mazda USA site for fuel economy, the MPG numbers ARE different.
IN Canada we use 4.6
Check out one of those charts i think its called canada energy or something like that were you can check out your mpg with out calcutling your self.
You will see that when calcutlate what i had done and check the chart that mine is eactly with the chart.

I've recorded the fuel consumption since I got the car.
Driving is about 65-70% highway and 30-35% city.
Average combined fuel consumption
year 1 9.12 L/100k
Year 2 8.80 L/100k
Year 3 8.65 L/100k
Year 4 8.77 L/100k (higher percentage of city driving that period)
My average over the last 6 highway trips has been 7.62 L/100k. @ 2000 km total, winter driving with studded snow tires....
I usually burn less than a half tank of gas on one of my typical highway runs (327 km non stop). However, I'm generally always travelling alone and do find that the performance and economy is definitely affected by how much weight I'm arrying.
I het better fuel economy than my wife does with her 2004 civic SE but thats mostly because she has such a lead foot on the pedal.....

The MID is very accurate and got the exact same results as my calculations.
I am playing around with how I accelerate, using cruise control, etc, to try to increase fuel economy and so far on my current tank it says I am at 7.9, but won't know official reading until next week.
I have 1300 km on my car
