I think anyone serious about upgrading would upgrade all the parts at the same time. I'm sure you'll be on the K04 for the life of your vehicle

I would prefer to just stick with the K04 and all the other crap that I have in my car, and call it a day as long as it runs reliably. You are 100% correct, and I'm not ashamed to admit that my goals for the vehicle are very modest. I never had plans for big power, and would be very happy if it just ran reliably and was fast enough. I mean, if I have to change the turbo and Mazda facks me, then I'll try to do it right and spend the money to get it done right. But if I don't have to, then I won't.
Remember that day you caught me at Street Performance (your car had a little issue that you wanted Jimmy to look at) and we chatted about this very topic?

You may (or may not) be surprised to know that you and I are not the only people who have come to the same conclusion about the topic.

I don't really have any intent on changing turbo's anytime soon...it'll depend how long I keep my MS3 if it ever gets one. The car is nearly 5 years old, if a third gen MS3 comes out or something else that really catches my eye I might very well get rid of it before I get big turbo ambitions.
Though, I would say the large majority of people who swap turbo's don't change the manifold from what I've seen.
If he ends up needing to buy a new turbo in some ways it would be silly to just put another k04 in, especially if he has to pay to have someone do it. Although....Elusivellama, have you considered just finding a good condition used k04?
-
Re: Random MS3 Chat Thread
Maybe that's true on MSF
But locally I'd say the majority are on upgraded manifolds except maybe Tanspeed3 and BlueStreak. BlueStreak is only on stock nownbecause his steedspeed manifold cracked

I have considered it, but it depends on cost and will the same problem come back again to haunt me...

The real question is, have you considered a racing seat?

I have the old TIP right down to the old ventilation hose (B). And this is a 2010 Mazdaspeed 3 too.

So there's your problem

Yah. Time to stock out that intake / pcv and warranty up. Should be okay on a custom tune right, as long as I don't drive it hard?

Re: Random MS3 Chat Thread
Fwiw I run the stock mani that I modified for an ewg. Works amazing. Sounds unreal. And looks badass aswell. Would I see benefits from an aftermarket mani? Absolutely. Is it worth it at this juncture? Nah. My goal is 400 whp on pump, and the stock manifold is good for 500hp. This winter I will be swapping the mani for a nice tubular header and running my meth kit or a 5th/6th port setup.

You didn't want to spend the grand on a manifold so you made the stock mani work for you. But you do want to upgrade.

Re: Random MS3 Chat Thread
I'm stock manifold at the moment. Just to lazy to do the swap lol

Correct. After dropping 5k + on the built engine, I ran out of funds for a 1000 dollar tubular mani. Plus duty, shipping, exchange. Not worth it right now.

Re: Random MS3 Chat Thread
I had both my TIP and Valve cover replaced TSB style by Mazda back in the day. My turbo wasn't smoking but they did it anyways.
As for the Tranny swap, yeah it was a job. The heat was the biggest problem. Having done it once we could probably do it again in one solid full day. Props to Tanner for finding a used trans and helping me git r done. Could not have done this without his help.
Just waiting on new slave cylinder to come in today. Mazda tech says that they self-destruct when left hanging (they over extend and that wrecks the internal seal) and other member have chimed in that there's failed in similar fashion. I disassembled it and the internals are all plastic garbage. :(
Tanner's car rips btw if anyone's wondering. EWG screams like an angry mofo.

Let me know if you ever get one made or want to order together... I am in the exact same boat as you :P but I still need to get a BT too...

Re: Random MS3 Chat Thread
Anyone of you have the forge v2 bpv and not using the green spring? I need it, and you probably don't cuz it's low boost. Let me know

That Tranny was my hook up BTW! But bigger props for helping you install it in the heat lol.

Re: Random MS3 Chat Thread
Anyone know where to get hotchkis rsb brackets and bushings? They don't seem to sell them separate from the sway bar kit. Last owner neglected to grease and mine are seized solid.

If the Energy Suspension brackets are anything like the ones in this pic, they will most likely corrode and snap on you during / after the first winter with them on. I actually stocked out my RSB a year ago because the brackets on my aftermarket RSB broke 3 times and enough was enough - I can trade off the increased performance for reliability in this case. You can maybe try what other people have done - prime them, paint a million coats of paint over them, then install them. See if that helps, if you choose to get Energy Suspension brackets.

They make them in various sizes, you can order off amazon.
They're the cheapest option and easy to get...I've never broken any but I have used multiple sets now for various reasons (I'm on my second RSB).
