Just another thing to clarify with oil pressure.. If for example, there's an oil leak somewhere, shouldn't the oil pressure decrease because there's less volume? Or is the effect of gravity negated since the oil is constantly moving within the system?
Also, isn't the pressure related to temperature, which means that with an oil pressure gauge you're basically monitoring both?
Oil leaks don't spontaneously show up. If you never touch the motor where oil is pumped through it, you'll never ever leak. Granted, you need to get your oil changed every X KMs so there's always a chance (and it has happened but is extremely rare). If you do happen to lose the motor shortly after an oil change, tow the car to Mazda, give them the keys to your car and have them replace the motor. It was their mistake and they should fix it (assuming Mazda changed your oil).
If you swap in a bigger turbo, part of your due diligence is checking for leaks after the turbo was installed. You look from the top, crawl under, rev the engine, check again. Check again in a few days. If it isn't leaking now, it won't leak later.
Pressure IS related to temperature. I have monitored oil pressure vs. coolant temperature many a time and notice a 5-10PSI drop in oil pressure as coolant temperatures surapass 200*F in stop and go traffic. You can expect the same effect if you're tracking the car. At the end of the day, it is not something to be worried about. The only time things become an issue is if oil pressure dips below 20PSI and at that point, it'll be 0 within a few seconds as there is something seriously wrong with the motor.

Ok, thanks for clarifying further Dave.. I think this reinforces what I know so far.

Snazz :)
Re: Random MS3 Chat Thread
besides, we already have a ghetto oil pressure "gauge" in the oil pressure warning light which goes off when there is a catastrophic drop in oil pressure.
Re: Random MS3 Chat Thread
I think the stock oil pressure switch is set at 5psi.
Re: Random MS3 Chat Thread
Oil siphon... anybody haz, or know where to buy one for super dirt cheap? For reducing the oil level in my engine, I think it's been overfilled by a little bit (roughly a little less than 1/4" above the Max mark).

MBNTO bot an oil pump/extractor a little while ago...
Re: Random MS3 Chat Thread
It's ok, I fixed it, thx Vince. As a side note, the oil already smells of fuel and it's been barely 500km since the oil change. Lowering my OCI down to like 5000 - 5500km as a result even on Rotella T6.

Thanks. This will be fixed later this summer after I go stage 2 and get you to protune the mofo :)
Re: Random MS3 Chat Thread
looking for a simple answer to these questions.
1: is a test pipe is similar to a downpipe in that I need and ungraded FP in order to safely run it?
2: will it make my stock exhaust slightly louder?
3: I see that SU is highly recommended. Is there any other TP that are recommended, preferably ones that you have experience with.
I have tried to search for this info, on google and the forum but havent got a definitive answer. please post a link if you have a link that answers these (mainly the first) and if you do, dont bother answering them as I will read the link.
Thanks.
Re: Random MS3 Chat Thread
1) generally not for a first gen, but if you get less than 1650 or so psi at wot then yes
2) yes
3) I used to have the SU TP and fitment was very good.
Re: Random MS3 Chat Thread
1: Exhaust is downpipe, mid pipe and cat back. DP and MP have cats. Some aftermarket DP are single piece DP/MP. Pump is alway recommended.
2: Yes
3: Not sure
Re: Random MS3 Chat Thread
1) TP removes the 2nd CAT, as per the two above, pump is recommended
2) Yes if you get catless, maybe not if you get the UR resonated one
3) Neil (majesticblueNTO) and I both have the UR combo (DP + TP) and both are resonated TPs. Neil says that it's not much louder than stock, and you heard my car the other day... I don't think it's much louder, just a little deeper tone.
Re: Random MS3 Chat Thread
chk out the Guardian Angel thread. I need to confirmm order ASAP.
Re: Random MS3 Chat Thread
Yesterday was a big day for my car. It has finally passed the 100,000 KM mark.

I would like to raise a toast to the biggest pain in my ass. I still love you so much <3
Also note the sweet mileage on one tank of gas. Pretty sure I could've gotten it to 500KMs easy. I just didn't want to run out of gas... again x3...
Pretty sweet mileage for a forged motor :)

when your car is that badass, you earn double miles
think about it
Re: Random MS3 Chat Thread
Hey guys, anyone know if these parts are compatible with the Gen2 (all parts would be coming from Gen1)
Weathertech digital floor liners
Cobb Accessport v2
test pipe
Cobb SRI
Cobb TIP
also would a 215/45/18 size tire throw off the tachometer or anything else?
Thanks,
Re: Random MS3 Chat Thread
Weathertech digital floor liners - no
Cobb Accessport v2 - should be
test pipe - yes
Cobb SRI - yes
Cobb TIP - yes
also would a 215/45/18 size tire throw off the tachometer or anything else - shouldn't, that's the stock tire size on the Gen 1, not thinking of this size for your car are you?

k Thanks Wilson, reason i asked is a member is selling stuff from his gen1 and hes got winter tires that size, j/w if they'd work... but i dont want to mess up the tach so i think ill just stick with stock size winters.
