Default Getting rid of smell in car?

Friend of mine had to transport some garbage in a bag (long story I guess lol), but it ended up in there longer than planned...and well the car reeks.

Any tips? Spraying it with febreeze mixes frebreze and garbage

    Thanks in advance

Not sure if these tips will work, since you didn't really "spill" anything.

True thanks MGM. Jeez, do you ever sleep?

I did tell her about the vinegar idea, I guess we'll see if it works..

I did originally think the vinegar thing was only really effective with cig smoke but I guess thats not the case lol.

I was just hoping someone had a good idea to "absorb" the smell..as since there was no spill, theres no source of the smell , or not an identifiable one anyway.

Not sure if you saw these ones, as I like to continuously edit my posts, so I'll put it in another reply.

(Oh, and believe me, I wish I could fall asleep as easily as a guy... or anyone/thing for that matter... It sucks, cause I have to be up in less than 3 hours too.)

This could work, but you'd end up with a fabric-softener-plus-garbage-smell for a bit. I have done this with jackets, and it worked pretty well. If you don't want people to see the fabric softener, maybe just do this overnight, and hopefully, you will see an improvement in the morning.

What works for smoke may work for garbage too.

Just because there's no spill doesn't mean that there's no source of the smell. Smell doesn't just come from nowhere, there HAS to be something to produce it. If there legitimately is no spill, and it is just the fact that the garbage was in the car, then just drive around with the windows down, and when the air gets completely flushed, the smell will be gone.

What I think is more likely is that the garbage actually did leave something there, if it still smells. Either a residue, or a spill that you just can't see. I would try cleaning it as if there was an actual spill, and see if that works.

Was the garbage put in the backseat area or the trunk? The smell could have soaked into the seats and you might be better off gently removing as much as possible to air it out.
