    Default gt 2.3 vs 2.0 L

So i've looked around and i can not find a thread with this tittle

I bought my gt a few months back , so far its been a good car. However I am still wondering how much of a difference is the 2 vs the 2.3 liter.

Anyone drove both and can tell me some performance difference between these two cars? handling , braking ,power , gas consumption, reliability??

Exterior wise they both look similar , except for the tail lights and the fog lights

The 2L has 8hp less, and gets better mileage. With an intake an exhaust, you will gain about 8hp on the 2L and still make much better mileage than stock 2.3L.

The only complaint i had when i had the 2.0L was that when the AC was on, there was loss of power in the engine. I dont see the same in my present 2.3L

But again this was an 05 GS. Maybe newer ones will not have the same problem.

2.0L good for city, decent highway
2.3L good for highway with bit more passing power.

its not just the 8hp diff, 2.3L has variable valve timing which keeps the engine efficient.

the 2.3L is also a bit quieter since it does not force as much as the 2L. This reduces cabin noise which is always nice...

I found my 05 GS engine less noisy (in the cabin) than the 06 GT.

I would have to agree with this as well, however things change once you mod and I have no issues with "passing power" getting by a 2.3L with ease *lol*

my one question is (correct me if im wrong here), but dont BOTH engines have variable valve timing?? cuz i noticed when mine was stock that it "kicked in" a little bit around 4000RPM (not arguing the point that the 2.3L would have more "kick" though)

weird, i thought i saw that on a mazda site.

you're right they both have sequential variable valve timing.

According to the mazda.ca site, the 2.3L has 15lb's more torque and earlier at 4000rpm instead of 4500rpm.

Well, I'll be honest. One of the main reason's I went with my 07 GT is because I wanted the white on black. I don't know if things changed with the 08's, or if they were different with previous years..... but when I got my car brand new in 07, the only way to get the white (pearl white) on black was to go with the GT. Was it worth the price?!?!? ....... it was, since my saleperson was my best friend in highschool (.. this is a prime example of why you never burn your bridges)

These comparisons on the egines are great, but what about the rest of the car? I have only driven GT models, so I can't compare. But what about seating? Are the GT seats not better, more support? Options with the GT? Suspension, is the GT a harsher ride, but better handling?
All this talk is on engine power and noise, what about the rest of the car eh?

I don't think the interior is much different aside from the fact you can upgrade to leather seats on GT. GT's also have different illumination on speedo and tach panel but that's really just a cosmetic thing.

I think suspension is the same, but GT has bigger brakes. But really the biggest different I found driving the two was the additional torque on the GT engine, definitely gives it extra "go" compared to the 2.0L. I still got the 2.0L though to save $$$, since most other things were cosmetic IMO.

Not trying to be a pain, but I was thinking more along the lines of opinions from those that have experienced the 2 and can give an opinion. I can look up statistic fine myself.... But I can't look up people's genuine first hand opinions... until they post them!

test drive one of each and find out for yourself...you can get reviews all you want but it won't be the same as having hands on experience

well I can reach 0-60km/h in seconds and breaks are drop dead stop amazing. Like the seats inside very comfy and sporty looking seats. Trip panels and illumination is very nice, easy to see.

The 2.0 is not as fast, the inside interior is more of a normal street car, could of been better in my opinion. Not as luxurious as a GT. Basically an average city car for a day to day driving to reach from point A to point B.

In Overall, if you want that extra power and sportier look with extra options go with a GT.

i would have to agree with that. I was sitting in my friends car last sunday , he has a 2 liter and it just did not feel the same

Power wise the 2.3 l seemed a lot more powerfull , the inside of the gt is a lot better and so is the outside . They are apparently pretty similar but once you own a GT then you would notice the difference for sure

I came from a 03 Protege5 with the 2.0, so I pretty much avoided the GS. Came across a great deal on the GT, and am quite impressed with it. I could only assume the GT had better, more supportive seats, tighter suspension and generally more power. If not, why would Mazda bother offering it? Unless its a comparison to Nissan's SER vs SER SpecV... 10 hp difference that only gets a 0-60 time .1 seconds faster... but I'll be quite honest, the seating and upgrades that the SpecV have are worth the extra $$$... I could only assume the same here.
I'm not trying to knock the 2.0, but I'm pretty sure the GT has an edge in most every category!
Now, onto the 2.3 GT vs MS3?...lol
