I find when I simply change the brand of gas (not quality) I get better gas mileage almost immediately. My car was first fed Petro Canada then I made the switch to Esso and got a 550km tank (only one time shot though), went to Shell and again my first couple were well over 500kms then switched over to Petro Can again (for sheer convenience) and I got my two best tanks. 578 and 582 when the check engine light came on. Didn't know how many litres I used.

    I drive an automatic too.

Averaged 8.4l/100km on my way back from Ottawa.I know it sounds high but my average speed was 135kph, with a couple of short spurts to 149 (That equates to approx 650km to a bone dry tank)

If it wasn't for them farking truckers moving into the passing lane forcing everyone down too 100km, then I'm sure at a constant 'steady' 135kph, I could have achieved somewhere in the mid 7's.

I used to b*tch and moan about my poor fuel economy but I have come to accept it. It aint so bad anymore (or I am being less demanding). A few weeks I went to Algonquin and managed to get 662 KM on a tank in my 2.3 2008.5 GT. I call that AWESOMENESS!!! Ofcourse I was riding fumes at that point with my computer telling me I have 0 KM left (and I drove over 15 KM with it showing 0 KM left) but who cares. Never thought I would be able to get it. When I filled up then the computer indicated I had 660 KM left in the tank (which I knew is bull as soon as I return from camping) but the fact remains the car aint so bad on long highway drives, not the greatest in the city but it aint so bad. I get at least 450-500 every single time and I am content.

Not sure if it is me but I also notice that my fuel economy gets drastically better after about 4000-5000 kms after an oil change. It sucks at first but around then it gets much better.

Well I'm still on my first tank of gas since I bought my car, but I think I'm doing pretty well. My indicator is just a hair under 1/2 tanks, and I got 320KM since last fillup. This is ~30% city, 70% highway.

Hm I forgot to mention I have a 05 Mazda 3 Sport GS with manual transmission. I added that to my signature, but I guess it only applies to new posts.

Try the 91 from shell. No ethanol. So you will get a little bit more out of the gas.

I've had my car since March and I've got 12,500kms on it.

I'm averaging 8.33 L/100km and 28.5mpg. Is that about average with all you guys?

My car is a 2010 Mazda 3 GT Sedan.

The car has 4100km, avg fuel economy at the moment is 9.6L/100km (mixed city and highway)

Last tank of gas gave me 585km (best so far)

I have only ever but Chevron gas in it (don't know if that makes a dif)

    Hope it gets better

Thought I would post this in the right thread.

Drove from Calgary to Edmonton and back at Christmas and really Granny drove it. I mean really Grannied it. I did 100 the whole way just to see. I EASED up to speed and EASED away from lights. It's all flat and straight around here too so no hills. We got 6.9 or 40.7mpg I got 650 km and the light wasn't close to going on but I wanted to fill up when I was done highway driving.

That kind of shows what these are capable of if you are willing to lose all the races away from the lights!

    My fuel economy sucks!!!

    I bought a GS '10. I've driven about 2800 KM.
On my last tank of gas I got 11.9L/100KM....big time BS.

Is my break-in period done yet? How much longer?

Also I drive Manual....and I shift at the 2000 rpm. Am I doing it wrong?

Give it a bit more time; it took me about 5000 km on my 2006 to get down to reasonable fuel consumption level. Don't forget too, that we're just coming out of winter, and the cold weather has a pretty adverse effect on fuel economy.

Thanks to the Internet, we now know this theory is wrong.

Last week I got about 535km to the full tank of gas, 95% highway driving at 120km/h in the rain, which works out to 8.6L/100km. In dry conditions, I was able to pull off 7.4 ~ 7.5L/100km with 95% highway driving at 100 – 110km/h. City driving is hard on the fuel economy though, and I’m learning not to worry too much about it. But then again, it could be just my driving habits… this car is such fun to rev up that I can’t really resist the urge to go WOT sometimes.

I fill up with Canadian Tire gas which is probably 10% ethanol, but I have a CT gas mastercard and I’m currently saving 10 cents per litre – this saved me $4.60 on my last fill up (46L from the empty tank light to full). I’m going to milk it for all its worth until the next cc statement, which should reset me back to 2 cents per litre, at which point I’ll try a tank of Shell or Sunoco and see how my car likes it.

Another thing I should mention is that I had the fan setting at defrost to remove the window fog when I was driving during the rainy weather we had last weekend. I know the A/C light doesn't come on, but the manual mentions that that the A/C is turned on regardless. So this means that my fuel economy of 8.6L/100km probably has some mileage sacrificed to the A/C gods...
