Default Issues... DRL Mod on its own

Details: 2007GS Sedan HID kit, Aftermarket OEM fitment Fogs with dash switch (not the steering column)

OK, so... Driving to hamilton, I smell something burning. I figured... "its hamilton" and got to my destination. I noticed that my Daytime running lights weren't running... and my fogs were "flashing" on and off randomly.

I pop the hood, and smell plastic right away. Assuming it is something that "i've" done to the car wrong, I look at the wiring harness for the fogs. The case that holds the inline fuse is melting. I'm assuming bad /dirty contacts causing heat, but the box has melted shut so I cant pull out the fuse. Instead, I go up the line and pull out the relay. Smell gone.

So I get back in the car... and notice that my DRL are not working. I check fuses, fine. I hit the highbeams... and only ONE (driver side) of the lights turn on.

What would cause ONE highbeam bulb to work, but not the DRL's? (2007 had the highbeams double as the DRL, just dimmer)

I just ended up driving home with my headlights (HID's) on for safety.

Any thoughts? I had mcGuyver install my fogs many moons ago, But I know its the 2nd rate Foglights that caused the melting issue, definately not his install work!

On the 2007-2009 the DRLs are run by putting the high beams in series. So if one of the high beam bulbs is out then DRLs won't work.

The DRL circuit actually runs backward through both high beams in series, thus half power to each. The DRL relay is set so that the power is on the Normally Open side and when the DRL's turn off this enables the regular high beam through the Normally Closed side.

The fact that your passenger side light is out make me worry.

That's a relief! So... Burning foglights and Drls are just bad timing and not related. :-)

Yuppers. Going to replace both at once as I had some e-bay lights in there and they don't match. Just going with the most output possible. Any recommendations?

    Cool thanks.

Looking on the sylvania website, ALL their halegon 9005 lights are 1700 lumes... Silverstars, Long Life, Silverstar Ultra's.... The only way I could ge tmore light output is by going with HIR bulbs but they might be costly as it looks like only toshiba makes any good ones.

HIR's are about the same as silverstars, price wise, just not as convienient to get. My local mod shop will order them for if I want him to. Go check who's near you.

P.S. Due to recent budget cuts and the rising cost of electricity, gas and oil, as well as current market conditions, 'The Light at the End of the Tunnel' has been turned off.

Just went with the Extravisions. Needed to get it working quickly as heading up to the cottage this weekend - Highbeams = Deer detectors. lol.
