Default COBB CBE for Speed 3

    Hey guys,

this is unofficial news, but from the person that works on the @COBBTUNING account on twitter said that they are working on a COBB CBE for the speed3 and it looks like it is going to be out next year.

Just a tidbit of info incase there is someone out there looking for an exhaust system as I am. My first choice was Borla only because COBB hasnt released anything as of yet, but since I am a big fan of COBB (mainly because of the name and rep, I know that isnt always the best choice, but give me a reason to not like COBB) so I am going to wait to see what happens, I would prefer to have all aftermarket parts be one manufacturer.

has anyone else heard of this?

    Joe

Are you referring to the COBB CBE for the Gen2?

COBB did make one for the Gen1 way back but dropped it as a result of scaling back and downsizing their product line when the economy turned sour.

I was unaware of them making a Gen1 exhaust system, you raise a good question, that was stupid of me to not ask for details...I will do so now and get back to the thread asap

    thanks.

Dude at the end of the day. The exhaust gives you nothing but zero hp.

Yeah it will depend on what other mods you have at the time... if you have a downpipe and exhaust that is a different story.

he said CBE. So it's implied there's no downpipe, hence no hp gain.

    anyway,

at the end of the day, someone is just excited about modding there speed in the future and using a brand that they like. So don't ruin their excitement. modding cars is supposed to be fun!

even if it means the car will be slow right fast_dude? hahaha. j/k

I will say tho, that I'm curious to see the price. If it's anything like their downpipe, it'll be expensive.

Thats why I said depends what he has "at the time" lol

If he has a downpipe then it would make sense to free up the flow of exhaust to really see any benefits.

P.S Hey! speed3 with a intake isnt slow haha

Doesnt matter what type of mods you have. At the end of the day you will still have 0 hp gain.

It's all about the bling factor.....lol If you want some half decent hp invest in a downpipe and an ap.

Cat backs do increase performance...but just not much. My friend saw a slight increase in g/s when they upgraded.

That's strange. When I upgraded my exhaust system and had it dynoed. I had no gains. I guess I'm doing something wrong.

To be honest I thought the same thing prior to him getting the car dynoed unless he is full of shit but I dont know why he would lie. Having said that the gains were very very minimal but were still there... you wouldnt feel it though lol

Dont mean to jack the thread but is it a stupid idea to get a catless downpipe? I am looking at some but the catted ones are so much more money lol. I am assuming I would be throwing CEL's with the catless DP.

The variance in g/s could've been due to a change in temperature/humidity.

Depending on how much air the engine is flowing, you may benefit from going with an aftermarket catback to unlock more power. I doubt the stock catback is a restriction with the K04.

the exhaust for me is really all about sound. I have the stock exhaust on now and I love it but I just wish It would be a bit louder and give it a throaty sound. It was going to be Borla exhaust if I didnt hear about COBB releasing theirs.

As far as hp gain in regards to exhaust, what system would give it hp gain? TBE?

would a DP and exhaust be the same as a TBE? (I am trying to educate myself, so please excuse my ignorance) I know that a AP would probably be the best investment, but all I have is a SRI so why spend the money on a AP if I really have nothing to tune? I figured once I get some other mods then I would get myself an AP and I would be able to get larger gains from one tune as opposed to having to do multiple tunes as I upgrade the car. make sense?

Pretty much could say a stock exhaust has three main parts. A downpipe with a cat, a mid pipe with a cat and then everything behind.

A Cat Back Exhaust (CBE) is that 'everything behind'

A Turbo Back Exhaust (TBE) replaces everything from the turbo back

A Downpipe can be bought that replaces just the stock downpipe, or the the stock downpipe and mid-pipe.

The downpipe on the Speed is where the power can be made, though it must be said you really need to start looking at an AP and Fuel Pump as well. Downpipe gives it an almost Subaru sound.

    ^ very helpful pic.

I hated the whole fact that some companies sell a downpipe as 1 & 2 while other companies sell them seperatlely. Confused the hell out of me at first.
