I have like 3 locations within 5-10 km of my place, its really just a question of the easier route for me.

And I'm pushing 235 right now... and all the weight is settling in the wrong areas

I would like to get myself back down to 190 for sure

my friends use the hwy 7/27 and hwy 7/weston locations. I've been to both of them but they were too small for my liking. the bramalea one has 300 machines plus other goodies.

Don't see how the size of the gym matters. All you need is a treadmill and free weights. Plus gyms are proportional to traffic anyway.

I just got a gym membership myself, I'm on the weight gaining side though, heh. I've lost ~35lbs since my prime

Man, I go to extreme fitness. The worst gym on the ****ing planet. They oversell memberships like crazy and if you go between 4-9PM on any given day you are waiting no matter what you're doing. Luckily, work starts at 12 for me so I go at 9 every morning.

Only thing is, I still wait almost every single time I go for either a squat rack or a bench. What a joke of a gym.

i go to la fitness and its the same. that just peek hours when everyone is done work, so far saturdays and sundays are the best when its empty there.just hard to get to the gym on the weekend when you want to do other things.

just make sure you are alternating your on and off days. not just working upper boday day after day after day and then legs 3 days in a row. need a days rest in between.

    http://www.muscleandstrength.com/wor...out-split.html

thats a really good 4 day work out plan, they have 3 day and 5 day i think as well an other stuff focusing on Power Muscle Burn system and works out like this for on off days

Day 1 - Chest and Biceps
    •Day 2 - OFF
    •Day 3 - Quads and Hamstrings
    •Day 4 - Shoulders and Triceps
    •Day 5 - OFF
    •Day 6 - Back, Calves and Abs
    •Day 7 - OFF

of course dont just focus on weights always need some cardio in there too, but if your trying to cut weight. more cardio less weight. or not any heavy weight as you will loose fat and build muscle but not really drop. if your looking to cut fat stay on lots of cardio and very light weights with high reps.

i have been going to LA Fitness since october of last year, started at 196lbs, now 184 lbs and couldt lift anything.. legs, chest press.. it was sad to be honest.. well i can now bench my own weight 185lbs and i can leg press up to 1080 lbs or 12 45lb plates per side, started dead lifting 90 lbs ( 2 25s and the 45 lb bar) and now i can do 315lbs including the bar or 3 45 plates per side. so it takes time but you will get there trust me. last.. pull ups, sit ups, push ups, they all suck. but do them, they really help your core and if you start like i did at 1-3 pull ups to now 10-20, sit ups 20 to now 50-100, push ups.. 3-5 to now 15-20 in a row, it takes time but with the effort you can easily get to your goal.

in the winter i went 5-7 days a week ( usually 2-3 hours a time, nothing else to do in the cold). in the summer 3-5 days a week (1-2 hours a time). just to give you an idea of how often i go.

My friends go to markville fitness(?) I hear its not crowded, the price is great, and it has lots of free weights. I need to start going to the gym to put on some pounds, but I'm just so damn lazy.

Ive tried the gym thing. Lets be real, unless you're super into fitness, or super commited, or have a bet going, most people get bored after the first 15 minutes of the gym. Maybe the first week you're committed, but then, as soon as your break the smallest sweat, you throw in the towel and are like "man, that was a great workout!" and rush to leave so you can go out/go home and enjoy your night.

So, if thats you, what I did was join a sport that was enjoyable and got me into great shape. Not only is it much more fun, much more social (if you like the people you train with), oftentimes you LOOK FORWARD to going and it seems more like FUN then a workout. Plus, you can move up in the sport (levels, belts, etc), and it can also become a hobby. Ie: MMA, hockey, rugby, etc.

Just a thought if you're not a big gym rat.

All I have to add is pay attention to form and give your body rest for anybody starting out. I've been hitting the gym regularly since I was 19 and had my share of injuries. The best part of working out is the added strength, core stability, and endurance that is applicable to any sport you play. You'll think smarter, be healthier, and more confident.

exactly. and to marta, it is hard to start going thats for sure. i would say takes about 3 months to really get into it and its easier if you have a friend to go with then you both can push each other to go when the other is being lazy. but once you start going you realize not just the gym improvements but life improvements, eat less junk eating more healthy. feeling better, more energy. and once you start going after those 3 months are over you feel bad for not going and that you have to make up the day you missed. i used to go to the gym when i was 17-19 for 6 months on and off, and that was hard because i had no direction or help or anyone to push me. but if you find a friend who will go with you ( which is very helpfull for spots ) you will feed off each other and push yourselves to go. but as marta said if the gym isnt for you an organized sport two to three times a week is a good alternative. ( i look forward to winter for my extra cardio time playing hockey )

Between my short bursts of actually working out (2-3 weeks max then i get lazy) I notice an improvement in my life style. I feel healthier, eat better, and get much better sleep. Trust me working out is a general improvement to ones life in general, with the added benefit of bulking/losing weight. Sadly I just cant seem to commit, probably because I don't have a buddy to hit the gym with

problem with gym buddies though is, when they get lazy- you get lazy. If they skip, you think its okay to skip too. Just my experience. My entire friends group got a membership all together once, and oh, was that an EPIC fail. So, sometimes, alone is better/

All the skinny dudes/guys that just wanna get strong should look into starting strength. All major compound exercises, only 3 days a week, and you become a ****ing beast. The idea of the workout is to increase the weight every time you go but it also incorporates very good warm ups which help you move along and a way to overcome plateaus.

Over the course of a year about 2 years back 2 friends and I deadlifted and squatted over 300lbs x5x3. Went from 3 scrawny bastards to 3 slightly less scrawny bastards with heavy (at least for us) lifts.

It's also a very widely renowned workout and Mark Rippetoe, the guy who created it, is a fitness legend.
