Kind of ironic, I've been looking around for a watch that I like lately and I just seen this thread haha. Some beautiful watches on here my god !

I'm leaning towards a Nixon Private SS.. Its cheap but decent quality from what I've heard..

http://i1066.photobucket.com/albums/u401/mparsonz3/NIX-A276-1041-BLK-1jpg.jpg

Nixon gives a 11yr warranty. I just looked at one like that but picked up the Police instead. Reason being, Nixon is CHINA product. Police is Japan internals but made in Italia. I took over an hear to make my decision and I think overall, Nixon products are cheaper for that reason alone. Cheap CHINA made stuff. Do some homework before you make a purchase but I was warned from the watch store even though they carry that product to stay away if possible.

I wore a Nixon Rocker for 8 years, no problems. I chose it because it was/is marketed towards skateboard culture, did absolutely no research. At >$200, and with an 11 year warranty, who cares where it's made? If it really took you over a year to decide whether or not you should buy a $200 watch, you were thinking too hard.

Nice watch that Omega, just not sure how I feel about 'specific' items ... Seems like it might lose the appeal of 'Look at my James Bond watch' after awhile

Although... Does it have a dart gun, or laser beam??

Your right and it very well might loose it's appeal when telling people but for me it's more just knowing I have it. Which is what most genuine watch collectors feel imo.

Knowing you have a quality time piece regardless of brand / price / quality is all that really matters.

nice pick up dave. i'm too not a fan of the specific bond omegas, but owning an omega is a great feeling. and the PO is a beautiful watch. i love their new movement.

I bought handwinds, mainly because I wanted to save a few bucks. The automatics are also handwound (usually) and then keep going from wearing them.

+1. If you've got the cash, like the watch, and it's under market value, why not? Very similar to the homage I bought so I like it of course.

I bought manual wind because I won't be wearing it daily. I also assumed there would be a little less that could go wrong with a manual.

The price difference is less than $10 between automatic and handwound...

Now I'm getting more confused because it looks like Parnis and Getat are now selling the exact same watches (or at least the one I want). Also looks like the Getat store now sells Parnis watches too....

correct on the auto movements. they are self-winding provided you wear them daily. otherwise they are good powerwise for 48 hrs or so.

It shouldn't I own a few automatics, and none of them do. My Seiko Orange monster doesnt last as long off the winder as my Raymond Weil Freelancer (V7750 movement), but a single day should be no probs :)

I bought hand wind because my other watch is an auto so I wanted something different. Some autos can be hand-wound also. I like the idea of having hand-wind so you can wind it every 2 days (depending on power reserve) and not need a winder when you're not wearing it. I also like the mechanical aspect of a hand-wind. Ideally you can get an auto with hand-wind capability and you're golden!

PM me. The first PAM I ever bought (a Luminor a few years ago) was a replica; I did a lot of research and ultimately found a bunch of ways to tell whether or not it's a fake.

Some reps are so precise that it's hard to tell unless you look at some fine details.

Depreciation, condition, demand for said watch on the market, all have a significant impact. I wouldn't write off the idea completely based on the number.

Yes. Amazon usually has the best prices on Citizen EcoDrives and that watch is $393 there right now.

I'd wait till ~mid January though, for the sole reason that that's when the new models start coming out and there are crazy deals on previous models.

Also try www.thewatchery.com. Door-to-door in less than 24 hours generally, and always verified authenticity.

I still want a Radiomir though, think something like this but with a polished case (still can't afford the real thing unfortunately) would be better:

New bracelet arrived for the Bulova my wife bought me for Christmas, so after a brief bout of fitting, things are much better. For some reason I just didn't completely love the black leather band.

Went from this:

to this:

The fitment on the endlinks isn't 100%, but pretty good.

So here's the thing. Your wife gives you a watch, and you pretty much better like it and wear it. Luckily, my wife has great taste and I did/do really like the Caravelle from the start. But after wearing it a bit, there was something missing. Turns out I was completely right about it needing a bracelet (I've got another black-faced dress watch on a SS bracelet so I already like the look). Now the watch is completely deserving of the treasured-gift-from-the-wife status, its the classiest watch I own.

As such it deserved a proper photo. Broke out the tilt lens and macro ring for this baby.

Here's yestereday's arrival. SKX007. I bought this solely with the intention to modify it as (based on photos) I don't particularly love it in stock form. However seeing it in person I understand why people love it.

http://i50.tinypic.com/11qoges.jpg

Tossed it on my cheap Timex Weekender NATO strap for now (hate the rubber, and it will eventually go on a nice bronze/gold-ish NATO)

Still definitely going to try my hand at modding it though.

Edit 2: Ami, how do you like the Pebble watch?

I am kind of torn on the pebble. Receiving texts and emails and call display has been handy at times for sure .
Being able to choose watch faces has been fun.
There are some quirks in how it interacts with IOS that are annoying though.
Overall I would say 6.5/10. Once the software developer kit is released, and people start creating apps, I can see it becoming that much more interesting.

They are both still ticking. Quality-wise not complaining.
The two that I have are both automatics, i.e. self-winding. The catch is, you have to wear them for the self-winding to work. As they are not worn on a regular basis, they wind down after ~48 hrs and it's a minor pain to figure out if it stopped before or after 12:00.

They are legit, but the prices arent that great. You can easily get the same price buy shopping around. Some of the lower priced ones have claims of being a $500 watch for $99 etc.. thats just lies, they never sell for that. If your looking at Bulovas etc, they are all legit :)

If anyone is interested in getting involved with a custom forum watch project, the Affordables section of Watchuseek is currently in the middle of designing one. The watch will be made by Berhnardt watches in the USA; target price is $220 using a Rolex Explorer-style case, sapphire crystal, Miyota 8215 automatic movement, 200m water resistance, and solid stainless steel bracelet.

At the moment we are voting on the dial design, these are the most of the 8 styles in contention.

http://i42.tinypic.com/2nrki89.jpg

Once the actual dial is decided, the finer points (date/no date, hands, colour etc) will be voted on in order.

All the info is in this forum (http://forums.watchuseek.com/f501/); no payment is yet required to register your interest so you can vote in the design phases.

http://cdn100.iofferphoto.com/img3/item/206/334/198/fossil-watch-ch2473-2a810.jpg

Got them as a gift for my birthday - they were about $150 back then. I like the black as it matches my ring color, the weight is also nice. Most importantly, they have survived for a good amount of time.

I definitely want to upgrade to something more luxury as the time goes on, but so far I think it's a perfect match of functionality, quality and design for a young man like me.

I am somewhat intrigued by watches like these: http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=CN3gHFPkysg but ain't nobody got time for that.

You should be able to swap it out easily for a 22mm leather band (checked Amazon for that spec). You can see that it isn't some sort of weird integrated bracelet from the back.

Where are you guys finding the nicer reps? I bought one a few years ago (Folex) and it was absolute junk.

I wouldn't mind picking up a nice Omega rep for a really close friend's birthday... he's a huge watch guy with a very limited budget.

I go on another forum called RWG.bz where they have Trusted Dealers that supply. Omega reps have a stem problem thats common unless you go for the "ultimate" versions which is fantastic because they come super lumed.

A factory in China called noobfactory just came out with a V2 submariner thats freaking amazing. Pricetag of $330+ USD . The one I have which is alright was $170 with a cheaper movement. If you'd like to know more let me know!

Sillix is okay, I've ordered from Timeshops, Torobravos and Trustytime but the best one was Toro until he cancelled Paypal orders.

Don't mean to offend anyone, but don't buy fakes if you really appreciate a good watch... besides buying for the brand of a Rolex or Omega, you are buying the craftsmanship of the movement and longevity of the value it holds for many years to come. There is no shame buying a cheaper watch or even a used one within budget (as I have until I saved up for a used quality timepiece), but if you really want to be respected wearing a "prestige" watch, then save up and buy the real deal.

you may fool your unsuspecting friends, but not to someone who knows anything about a good watch... :facepalm

Fakes are soooo terrible. A homage is OK, but fakes, I would never support. So many nice, low cost, unique watches. Why fake the funk?

I do plan to get a used one but with many freaking good looking time pieces I might as well order something that would look great on me so that in the future I can invest in one. As for now I'd rather build a nice rep collection to which I adore.

Many times I've been told I had a nice watch when I wore reps, I've politely replied that it's a replica and they're cool with it. In fact I've had a manager approach me about my Transocean Unitime when I took my gf for dinner. He complimented it and after I told him it was a replica he didn't mind as we both shared the love for watches, the only difference was that we were both on different financial levels.

My point is you can't assume someone will have no respect for you after finding out its a replica, you just don't know their story. Someone who wears replicas don't go around and try to fool people, but if they do then its laugh now cry later. You can say the same thing about fake wheels, fake aftermarket parts. But if you have no respect for those who choose to wear their reps then keep it to yourself. Outing someone out that they claim its real is fine. Outing someone out when they didn't do anything is being a dick.

i hate fake wheels and fake parts too. I understand not everyone is prepared to spend thousands on a watch, but why not get something not fake? Fakes ARE trying to fool people. Why else do they have the other manufacturers name on them?

comparing it to wheels - go ahead, buy some XXR reps, but as soon as you run fake centre caps, you are trying to fool someone.

Movado make solid watches. The head office here in Markham, so any repairs you can go right to them. They do primarily quartz, but do some automatics as well. The CF model a few years back was a Valjoux 7750 movement, which is a great Swiss movement.

My only complaint is the lack of styles. If you don't the "museum dial" you don't have much left.

good to know office is in markham, thanks for info. ya i agree with you, although they have more sportier watches with their bold line. but i wouldnt look to movado for a sportier style watch.

i'd like an omega or rolex but i wouldn't want to shell out that kind of money

Sometimes I think of renaming this the "What watch did Aitch buy now?" thread.....

I got a new Vostok a couple of months back with the sole intention of modding it immediately. This case shape doesn't come in an orange dial, so I actually bought two watches, swapped the dial/movements, and sold the other one. Then I got a custom bezel and Doxa-lookalike insert to complete it.

As your resident watch addiction enabler, thought I'd give you all a heads-up on a few things:

First, my favourite NATO strap source just released two motorsports-inspired straps using the famous Gulf Racing livery and BMW M-Sport colours. The former has previously been unobtainium and the latter has never been produced from what I know. I just ordered the "Le Mans" (Gulf Livery) in both 20mm and 22mm sizes. $16 each (http://natostrapco.com/).

http://img.tapatalk.com/d/13/11/13/egezy3y2.jpg

http://img.tapatalk.com/d/13/11/13/e5ahynys.jpg

Secondly, the "Affordables" forum project watch is in the process of getting built, and deposits are due by Friday before the price goes up. A very unique teal dial colour, built by Fred Amos of Bernhardt Watches, for the cool price of $220 USD + shipping. After Friday the price goes up to $259 + shipping (the price of the Binnacle Anchor watch with which it shares its case). So you're getting a unique, custom-designed limited-edition watch by a reputable USA watchmaker at below-retail pricing. What's not to like? There is still space available on this bandwagon (http://forums.watchuseek.com/f71/your-chance-get-2013-f71-limited-edition-forum-watch-935614.html).

My aunt found gave this to me for Christmas after finding it at a thrift store. Wondering if anyone knows the logo or has an idea on the maker.

Back reads

All stainless steel water resistant 20 ATM .
Made in France

No other markings beside the logo on the face

It had a battery replaced recently, is it common that there are markings inside the case that would tell who the maker is?

For some reason the stem on mine is suddenly wonky. Will only change the time, won't wind the watch. I have to investigate further. Getat's response recently has been very hit and miss so you might be better buying from Daijwatch or Manbushihie.

I looked through them all. Maybe you can help, i am trying to get a 40-44mm Homage, Automatic, with White SuperLume. No (magnified) date - though i like the look without it is practical. Needs independent seconds hand, and crown guard, power reserve indication(if possible - only if its without date, don't want it to be TOO busy) and sapphire (Wow i sound like one picky f*ck :S)

I don't mind the wait as i read of the long delay as well, but if there are QC issues i will keep looking.

Have you handled any of the other models from different vendors?

I don't mind the wait as i read of the long delay as well, but if there are QC issues i will keep looking.

Have you handled any of the other models from different vendors?

I haven't handled the different versions, but from what I understand except for the movements they are all essentially made from the same parts. Just different people building them. I also forgot Jackson Tse (Military Time). I know Getat was great for doing custom work, his website essentially lets you build exactly the watch you want then submit it (kind of like a work order). I think the others often build when a purchase comes in, so find the base watch that closest matches your list and email them referencing that watch and the changes you want. I wasn't able to find any white numbered examples from Manbushijie so he might not be able to do it; Jackson Tse has them so he might be able to make one to your liking.

Eg. there is this version, only lacking the sapphire and power reserve: from Jackson Tse (http://www.jacksontse.com/new/product-page.php?product_id=316)

Hope that helps!

Thanks!

That one definitely looks good. I'm so indecisive! I will order one in the next month for sure. Definitely love the style and a real one isn't happening anytime soon. Being relatively new to watches, does the mineral glass hold up long-term? I got a good nick in my Seiko pretty quick, worried about the risk of scratching it since its such a nice looking piece.

Cheers

Travis

I've had no problem with mine yet. Although (knock on wood) I don't tend to bang my watches too much so haven't suffered a scratch yet. I'm actually on a bit of an acrylic/domed crystal kick at the moment....

Time for my bi-monthly watch-aholic enabler post. New, interesting offerings in the works.

First up, new prototypes have surfaced from a fellow Canadian budding watch maker, under the brand "Helgray". The owner already has a line of dive watches under the separate brand "Makara (http://www.makarawatches.com/)" which are all automatic; the Helgray watches below are quartz. I'm really taken by the GMT version but flat crystals are something I'm trying not to buy at the moment. Prices are unspecified but IIRC they will be sub $250 for sure.

More info here (http://forums.watchuseek.com/f71/what-ive-been-working-lately-935224-10.html).

-----------------------------------------------------------------

Aevig Watches have are currently doing pre-orders for their Huldra (http://aevig.com/product-category/huldra-retro-diver/)dive watches. Exceedingly nice automatic, retro-inspired but unique (i.e. not homages) divers. I love the blue version but I'm holding out for the planned dual-crown dive watch (only space for one watch from this brand for me). $450 w/shipping included.

-----------------------------------------------------------

Lew & Huey (http://www.lewandhuey.com/spectre-midnight-black/) continues to roll forward. The latest watch on my "want" list is the Spectre, a unique and modern take on the typical "fliegler" pilot's watch. Very well priced at $300 for pre-orders. The Riccardo chronograph was really well received and the current Acionna pre-orders are going well too. A brand to watch.

I'm really into rally straps on chronographs at the moment. Not sure what dial color you have - for white I'd do a black rally strap, if you have a black dial I'd do a brown strap.

I just tried out my brown strap on this Triumph chrono yesterday, but I've got a black rally strap coming for it soon. The brown one is from Crown & Buckle (http://www.crownandbuckle.com/straps-by-size/20mm-straps/rallye-20mm-tan.html), very nice quality for ~$40 (I got mine in their Black Friday sale though).

Wow! Looks awesome!

I think i am going to pickup that Jackson TSE pam homage - I'm contemplating going hand wind with this one and getting an automatic after that.

When i go for that one so far in the running i've got

1. Seiko SNN233
2. Seiko SNK* Series (Unsure about colour)
3. Invicta 8926

Would really like a day/date automatic. But the chronographs are definitely appealing too... Decisions, decisions..

aww what the hell those are awesome, I would totally have preferred one of those...

I just don't like the fact that without a smartphone link, they are useless.

and that isn't entirely true...without a smartphone on you you can't upload data such as weather and any ongoing data...however you can still download different watchfaces using a smartphone...and if you are walking around without your smartphone on you...and just the watch the watchfaces still work...you just wont get up to date weather or text/email/call notifications, but the time will still be accurate.

Also the games you can download for it will work without the smartphone hooked up...but yes it is "mostly" useless without a smartphone link

Thanks guys! I am pretty happy with it. I got a new strap and mis-measured, so ended up with an 18mm strap when it fits a 20mm. I'll probably replace it one day but for now I'm happy with the fit!

Regular Aitch bump.

After finally getting a nice watch box for Christmas, and a few recent watch swaps, I've got a nice photo of my collection for once. I also feel like this will be a stable collection for a while now, pretty happy with everything.

....I think I have a thing for chronographs.

The latest is the new Seiko chrono in the upper left corner. When that Gulf livery strap came out (blue and orange) I had to have it but then realized it didn't quite go with anything in my rotation. The Seiko fit the bill but I had to make room for it. After a few weeks I realized that in some ways it was similar to the titanium Panerai homage I had, so last weekend I sold that one and got the Seiko. I really liked the PAM but I'm happy with the switch. A nice leather strap for the Seiko will give it even more versatility.

After it arrived I also realized that I finally had something I liked this black and red strap on as well. So a win all around I would say.
