Yeah, before you go nuts with some mad high end system...try out the consumer grade PTZ's

I'm really considering getting this. Any idea how well it holds up being outside?

I'm waiting for my whole system to be commissioned before I turn it all on.

Interested to see how it all performs since it was obviously a completely new system that was designed for a certain level of performance, so it better perform.

So how is this working out for you?

still debating this system.

in 2012 it sold for 1.58mill but they were asking 2.4mill. so.. in 1990 it was prolly. what..500,000 - 750,000.. maybe even a bit less.. based on the average 5.5 % appreciation rate.. give or take.

small town though. 12,900 people..
Winnetka housing market information

With a population of 12,490, 4,043 total housing units (homes and apartments), and a median house value of $1,018,938, Winnetka house prices are not only among the most expensive in Illinois, Winnetka real estate also is some of the most expensive in all of America.

Winnetka is a village of large, single-family homes. In fact, there is a higher proportion of four, five or more bedroom homes in Winnetka than is found in 98% of the communities in America.

The large homes that make up Winnetka are primarily owner-occupied (90.74%).

The housing in Winnetka was primarily built before 1939 (49.70%), making the housing stock in Winnetka some of the oldest overall in America, although there is a range of ages of homes in Winnetka. The next most important housing age is between 1940-1969 (22.19%), followed by between 1970-1999 (15.38%). There's also some housing in Winnetka built between 2000 and later (12.73%).

Winnetka home appreciation rates

Winnetka's appreciation rate notably has been below the national average for the last ten years. The average annual home appreciation rate in Winnetka during the period has been just -0.60%, which is lower than 70% of US communities.

NeighborhoodScout's data show that during the latest twelve months, Winnetka's appreciation rate, at 5.64%, has been at or slightly above the national average. In the latest quarter, Winnetka's appreciation rate has been 2.06%, which annualizes to a rate of 8.49%.

Relative to Illinois, our data show that Winnetka's latest annual appreciation rate is higher than 70% of the other cities and towns in Illinois.

yea I live in Orangeville. id be surprised if anyone broke in. but there is a motorcycle in there as well which im sure is worth more then my tools and boxes... but the garage door is locked and has a padlock on the inside so wouldn't think they would get in that way. and then the garage has a door knob lock and deadbolt. but yes insurance is key

either way just need to finish the floor going to epoxy it.. but its what I wanted and im super happy every time I look at it. next year to build a shed to put the patio stuff and mower. so it will be the bike or car if we sell the bike chilling in the garage.

That's an indoor one. The outdoor PTZ will have a dome.

alternatively, i've seen people just put the indoor ones in a covered area, such as the corner if you have a large roofed area over your front porch.

i use 3 foscams 8910 i bought 4 years ago for a baby monitor and two 9821's (they're only about 60-70 on amazon) that i've had for 2 years. they're set up in the kids rooms and the garage. The garage one has motion detecting set up so that it starts recording to the SD card and a file server as well as sends me an email alert that the door was opened.
will probably get a couple more, one for the basement for when the kids are playing down there and i may throw one up in the attic above the garage to look outside the front driveway

tiny cam pro for android is only a few dollars and works great for controlling them from my mobile devices

Anyone using anything to boost wifi signal throughout the house?

The way it was run when we did our Reno meant the Bell router is in the basement.

I need something to boost the signal in the upper floor.

Try playing around with the location of the router first.
If it is located under or near a metal beam, it will affect the signal strength.
Personally hardwire a cable from the Bell router to the main floor and add a wireless access point device there.

I have the entire house wired with CAT 6, unfortunately the Bell router, which is also a wireless router is stuck right by the electrical panel. So there are CAT6 cables plugged into the router than run into each room in the house. I'd like to be on the same wifi signal (username and password) of the bell router, if possible.

I don't know much about this stuff.

Appears that the Netgear Nighthawk EX7000 is currently the best extender available on the consumer market (comparison article (http://www.tomsguide.com/us/best-wifi-extenders,review-2225.html))

Personally, i would disable the wireless on the bell and get a good router for the wireless part.

but if you don't want to do that then you can get one of the smaller range extenders that don't take up much space.

Since I dont work at CC anymore i dont hear feedback from customers but if the brands are still what they were. then i would go for an asus or netgear.

it also depends what you need to boost. IE: dual band, AC,B,G,N, 1200, 1500, 1600, 1900.

Do you have the newest bell wireless router? if not, i would suggest getting the newest one unless you purchased the one you currently have

my parents use those Netgear extenders that plug into the outlets. I think the powerline series? one end plugs into an outlet and runs ethernet to the router, the repeater can be plugged anywhere else in the house and it uses your wiring as an ethernet line

No no no.

Get any other router, connect it on a lan port to your primary router (in another room in the house via your cat6). Turn off dhcp and such on the second router, statically set it to the same subnet but different ip of your primary router. Set the same SSID on both routers, same passwords, but different channels. Part of the 802.11 spec includes a roaming thing, windows supports it too, basically lets it hop from access point to access point on the same network. That way your house has multiple access points, wired together, and your devices will automatically flip/flop between whichever access point is strongest.

I've done this in my house with 3 routers (two upstairs, one in the basement of which one is the rogers thing), works awesome and gives you massive coverage at full speed. Range extenders just boost the signal but are all reliant on wifi to begin with so they're not strong.

Of course my neighbors have lousy wifi because I cover the 3 primary non-overlapping bands with my setup lol including one linksys router with third party firmware with the output power cranked up lol

I have Router1 in the garage has the modem(with wifi disabled), and a port run to a powerline adapter, that router covers my wifi for the garage and living room area, and then I have the other powerline adapter in the house, run to a 2nd router brodcasting the same wifi, so when I move around the house Im just hoping from AP to AP, works great, easy to still share media across, and easy to keep expanding.

This is before the pour...there's 6-7 inches of concrete under the lifts themselves, even thicker between. Also got some welded wire mesh thrown in during the pour.

I rented a bin for 1 week. It was about 4 feet deep. $99+the dump fee. My total cost was about $300.

Also, buy a tarp and keep it covered tight. Rain increases the weight of your stuff. And depending on where you live, your neighbours might think it's okay to dump their shit into your bin, so keep an eye on that.

Hanging some pictures/frames tonight. Waiting for some instrument wall mounts to hang my guitars. Thinking of pairing the wall behind the tv a dark matte charcoal colour.

Also waiting on a good 11 channel Dolby Atmos receiver to go on sale

For those interested in the Ecobee3 Amazon has it for $299 with the additional 2 sensors. So basically you get the 2 sensors for free which is an $90 value

Edit: it's possible that was last Friday only....

The one between the family room and rest of everything is where the beam lives, above the two windows is plumbing, and the black wall is more plumbing and HVAC. We moved as much as we could and made them as small as possible.

There literally a bit of everything in the wall we took down that had to be moved.

Bought them for just under 10 bucks from Amazon: only put them up this afternoon but they seem sturdy. Mounted right into the wall studs so they're not going anywhere.

I have another set showing up at some point. If you're interested you can buy them off me whenever the do finally show up...same product thru Amazon but a different seller.

They sell ones that are spring loaded and the arms close with the weight of the guitar. I'd go with that type.

Do this. It worked well for me and I found mostly my connection issues were tied to 2.4. If you can get good coverage on 5 it will help a lot more with speed and reliability.

I'm using 2 tp-link routers but almost anything newer will work.

I thought about it but this isn't our forever home so for the time being, 5.1 is good for now.

I had help to put the drywall up but not the mudding/tapping/sanding. It's for sure hard work but luckily it't not too big of an area and i split it into 3 parts to do so it worked out OK. just one part left to do after christmas then we can prime and paint.

Hello everyone. It feels like forever since I've seen any of you. Winter is so blah so I've been busy inside the house.

We recently upgraded from a condo to a whole house. Very exciting [emoji5] I love to tinker and fix things.

When my Mom saw the house and this room she was going to stay in she almost changed her mind about moving in. We moved to Cambridge and need her help with the kids so thank goodness I chose this room to redo first.

This is the first of many before and afters. Enjoy!

Will be setting up the Marantz SR7010 tonight...

Ordered 4 Polk Audio MC80 8-inch in-ceiling speakers to replace the 6.5" Pyles currently installed but never used.

Once those arrive and are installed I'll have 2 pairs of Pyle speakers for sale if anyone is interested in a budget Atmos set up. I've never tested the Pyles but I will try them out likely tonight or tomorrow to see how they do.

So over the christmas break I completed a 5.1 setup in my garage, yes garage.

Apparently I like to play it to loud in the house at 1am LOL, I was telling my buddies I couldnt believe anyone could sleep as I was literally shaking the house with every shot...well apparenly the boss wasnt sleeping lol

I have an amp and pair of bookshelfs and powered sub in the garage already, so I needed a center channel and rears, so I asked my dad to bring a pair up over break (hes got more stereo then I could ever imagine of owning).

So I moved the xbox out to the shop and its hooked to;

AMP: Onkyo TX_SR700
Center : JBL Flix 20
Front: Polk Audio RTi6 2-way
Rear: Athena S.5 2-way - ceiling mounted
Powered Sub: Acoustic Labs S100ETH
TV: Sharp Aquos 46" LCD

Xbox is connected to TV with HDMI and im using Optical to the AMP :)

Its a hard life in the garage lol Can still park both vehicles in with lots of room to game.

http://i65.tinypic.com/2ym5zt3.jpg

While its nothing new, and not modern, it works, and sounds amazing for a garage setup. Ive always loved my dads older gear, although without HDMI, the amps are a powerhorse.

When I do want to play in the house I connect to the xbox with my Windows PC thats hooked up to my inside surround/TV and it streams find. Win/Win!

anyone have a propane or natural gas heater in the garage? i think next year i want to get that set up, even just to keep it around 5-10 in there. with the recent cold it was about 0- -10 and i was just worried about some of the chemicals freezing. amazing that out of a case of 24 only 3 water bottles had ice.

just wanted to see what if anyone is using to get some ideas.

Bubba does...I'm going to eventually. Separated combustion is the way to go and Modine or Reznor are top brands. That said, a Mr Heater from TSC or Princess is plenty and it doesn't take a big unit to heat stuff up.

See that big green thing hanging from the ceiling in my post above yours?

60,000 BTU Natural Gas furnace. ..garage is also insulated on all sides and roof.

I turn the thermstat to about 4 when I'm not in there , and if I'm in the shop I crank it to 20/25, and it warms up in about 5mins. Its the best thing I could have asked for with the house.

I keep all my chemicals/supplies in the garage year round.

It was there before we bought, however, my father in law had one put in last year, got one of the ones that hugs the ceiling from TSC and had a guy install it + gas line.

He put in one of these http://www.tscstores.com/MR-HEATER-80000-BTU-BIG-MAXX-HEATER-P17921.aspx#.WHO2oFzI6ek

Eventually I will replace mine with something similar to get some head room back, but its REALLY hard to complain about it all already.

i didnt even notice that until you mentioned it. would 60 000 btu be something to large for me? i mean i have a 1 car garage its boxed in with an attic storage. insulation in the ceiling / floor up there but the roof is open is open. just want something to maintain the warmer temp in there. even if it was 10-15 thats fine for the time im in there. no tv or games in there... yet. but then again theres no room to move with the patio stuff in there until we build a shed.

Personally I don't like them but they aren't horrible. They were there when we moved in and its better than the traditional drop down ceiling.

I would much prefer a flat ceiling or some georgeous wood slats. Its this new modern trend that fancy people are doing.

The speakers hanging from the ceiling look badass...

The wires could have been cleaner but whatever. In ceiling speakers will look a hell of a lot cleaner for sure, and will be easy to install since you have the wires right there

Simply replace them with ceiling speakers and if she doesn't like that then just put them the way they were. It's really that simple. Just keep changing them out until she's completely satisfied.

They do look badass IMO but I don't count haha. I wanted in ceiling but she didn't want me to spend the money on them. But now I'm allowed haha. They aren't the craziest (Polk audio RC60i) but itll be good enough for now.

As for the wires. When I installed those. We weren't planning on a sectional. And brackets that have the wires in them are hard to find. But putting the new speakers in will be very simple at least.

Gabe you could always change the colour of the speakers to match the wall, even the grills can be sprayed. You should also have them pointing perpendicular from the wall, as I don't understand why you have them pointing directly at your listening position...its too direct.

Form what I have read and heard, In-ceiling speakers are inferior to regular speakers as you have, and for several reasons.

My reasoning with pointing them that way is it defeats the purpose of rear speakers if they are pointed forward as i cant aim them down enough since they are so high. And they would look just as weird pointing forward.

As for the color. it wont matter to the wife haha.

i know in the in-ceiling i'm getting are inferior to these ones but it'll do for now. The next house will have all this into consideration when purchasing haha.

For the amount of sound that will be coming through them they'll be just fine

It's the people that rely on all in-ceiling and in-wall speakers that really need to spend huge $$$ to get the same quality sound of traditional speakers.

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Flagrum_3

loki The amount of sound is not as important as with other factors..It is not just the "quantity of sound" but quality of sound coming from the surrounds. Too many people underestimate the importance/effect of surrounds to the full listening experience. With a proper system you want the speaker itself to "sonically" match the main speakers, you also want the frequency response to compliment the mains and to achieve a low enough frequency to match up well with the sub. But proper dispersion of sound is the main issue, and ceiling speakers will never give you this proper dispersion. You should know looking at the surrounds which came with your speaker system, alot of engineering went into those speakers to achieve those specifics.

Was a pain to cut through the 2x3 I had put for the other brackets but got it done.

Just gotta let the putty dry then sand and paint and I'm done.

Just a tip: If you use tape for a straight edge while painting, remove the tape while the paint is still wet. Don't leave it on there between coats.
Reason 1: The paint will actually creep under the tape, like a sponge. Yes, even if you pay extra for that "frog" tape. You no longer have a straight edge.
Reason 2: You run the risk of pulling the paint off once it's dry.

Made that mistake once :)

If doing a big room do a wall at a time because the time it takes you to edge all the way around the room, the paint cancer tacky and still pull uncleanly from the wall.

Basically if you wanna use tape you should tape each coat.

I've learned to just get better at edging and not require tape now. Saves a bunch of time (but I'm still slow at painting)

yep. our house was about 392 in orangeville for oct 2015. a year after we moved in a house smaller then ours same layout went for 499. so having about i think it was 3-400 sq ft more the average house is about 525-550. the town houses up here are going over 450 its crazy! we even looked at townhouses and up here in 2015 they were around 330-350. its amazing how fast the markets going up. which they didnt change all the buying selling rules. now is such a good time to be able to make fast money in a year or two. insane to think how high i felt 400 was then.

haha this just made me check theres houses in my area going for 540 up to 590 aha oh man. and theres a 750k house on jay street that theres nothing special about. but a beautiful 1.1 mil place that would be nice to have.

Oooooh nice! I gotta do similar. Have you considered dropping on of the flanks to another level? (Only a step, maybe two at most.)

Have you also tried laying out some furniture on the plan to see how you might use it? Assume one side might hold a BBQ?

I'm a big fan of multi tiered decks.

I should draw it in, but top left is sliding doors from the dining room and bottom right under the deck is sliding doors from the basement. So I can't drop the left side because of the step out the doors and can't drop the right side because of the headroom below at the sliders. So single level it is.

Left side area is going to be a dining table (probably 6 person rectangular). Right side area is going to be seating area with sofa/loveseat/sectional sort of thing with a possible fire table long term. Center towards the house is going to be BBQ area (the BBQ will back onto the pergola posts). Center out from the house is the "look out" (our house backs greenspace) and will have two comfy lounge chairs.

Pic of back of house while is was being built showing layout of doors/windows:

Re-read what you wrote and understand now. You have a walk out opposite of your upper level entrance.

What about doing a walk down from the upper walk out to the lower walk out to combine the entrances. Then you'll get more light into the basement walk out instead of shading it. You can also have separate seating / prep areas too.

It would be tight to do stairs down and would cut into my useful deck space. I would lose almost all the grass in my backyard, we have a fairly deep back yard (over 50 feet), but it's got a large slope down. It goes only about 14-15 feet on the left side before falling off, 25ish on the right side though. Long term I'm going to likely put a shed under the left side of the deck and might do a small patio out the sliders from the basement.

I'm standing on that slope in this pic, you can see how close it is:

Eep! :)

I guess you'll have to address the possible erosion issues longer term.

Understand about the usable deck space. I guess if you kind of did an L shaped stairway you could make up in deck space by going deeper on the lower deck.

Anyways your plan sounds good to me lay out wise. I plan to put a shed in the back against my house as well to store tools etc to free up space in garage for working on the car.

In the basement I have a low headroom area that will be my server room and some prep space for drones, etc.

I'd do it, if I didn't live so far.

Test every single outlet, hot/cold water, run the furnace/ac, etc... It's nothing complicated, it's just about being thorough.

Check for stains on ceilings, mold, etc... Then look in the attic and at the roof. Check the appliances that are staying, like the water heater, softener, furnace, for dates of installation...

I used the same bag of seed in and it's patchy as ****. Some spots are growing 3 times as fast as the original lawn, other spots haven't grown at all.

Head to Uhaul. Most locations have a pile of "used" boxes for free. Also, if you buy any new ones, you can return the unused ones.

Thanks loki I've heard good things about that stuff. I won this pine two seat version of a chair like yours at a bbq a while back but need to put a finish on it and haven't been able to find any sikkens stuff locally at the normal stores.

@m_bission are you asking me about composite? I honestly don't know if the load rating is different, I think the load rating has more to do with the underlying structure. It's all 2x10's on 12" centers though and not at max spans, so there's a lot of load capability.

It is actually triple valved. There's a valve at the manifold in the utility room.

First 2 valves were put in by our gas guy, I put a reducer valve and a quick connect on myself today. Like I said, it needs to be cleaned up.
