2011 mazda 3 sport with 18,000 kms..
How does one find out that the engine mount is about to go? If it goes, does the engine blow up or seize? Just worried since alot of mazda 3's have blown engines. Maybe the 2011 models have been improved?

Not sure why Mazda would recommend 8000km intervals if it weren't safe. Typically manufacturers are conservative over liberal with their recommendations. I'd assume that Mazda decided that 8000km was a "safe" interval and that it's probably ACTUALLY capable of going longer without issues. I see absolutely no benefit to Mazda overstating the interval.

I believe the oil starvation is due to the balance shaft hanging under the 3rd cylinder.
