I know there are a lot of excellent photographers on this forum. I am just starting into it, and figured this would be a place where everyone can show off and critique each other's work.

I've just started trying to do HDR photos and here are some I've done.

I still haven't perfected adjusting all the settings yet. I'm using Photomatix Pro on my laptop. Eventually I will do post processing of these images in Photoshop.

The motion shot of the car was done using the panning technique. Using a slower shutter speed, I followed the car by hand. It was mostly luck to get a good clear picture using this technique. I took ~150 pictures, and only 2 of them turned out nicely. I'm hoping with practice my chances will increase though.

two of my personal fav shots i took in the last little while.
Top one was my attempt at HDR, using photomatix pro also. Definitely to over processed, but I like the way the colors pop. And thats what draws me to the photo... the actual subject itself is a little blah.
Second one might be more sentimental, Its a photo from my hotel room in vegas when my (Now) wife and I got married last year.

Steve, really liked the shot of the sunset as well. The colours are awesome.

Didn't like the turn out of the third one as a panning shot, but I feel it still has a cool effect that shows the speed!

I'm not a fan of HDR photos... they rarely come out natural looking and the edges of shapes are over accentuated.

Steve, are you shooting on Shutter priority for the panning shots?

Yes Shutter Priority for me. I think the reason so many of my pictures came out bad is because I was standing on a corner, so the car and the camera were probably not on parallel lines of travel. What were you using as your shutter speed? I was trying between 1/60 and 1/40.

I did from 1/20 to 1/40. I found 1/20 a bit too long. Sometimes even quicker speeds I found I could get away with

I'm not sure if anyone has mentioned this:

For those interested Henry's has classes that they do on I believe Saturdays or Sundays (and I think one weeknight as well) that you can sign up for, and learn to do things like HDR shots, etc. My mother signed up, and she loved it. I believe Henry's also has a Photo/Camera Club too, which gets together once a week.

great photos guys!
i am currently looking to buy a DSLR....maybe you pros can help me out in choosing one!

Once i am thinking between Canon Rebel T2i or Nikon 3100...then again thinking i am sure i'll grow into more photography if i get hand on a DSLR...so maybe with few 100$ more now itself, i can buy the next level ones...like Canon 60D or Nikon D7000.

I have been living with Canon S3 IS and i think it's high time i upgrade to a DSLR.

What do you guys suggest? If you have suggestions/feedback on other models/manufactures, throw it to me.

Took this HDR Photo with a Canon Rebel XS - a great camera and alot cheaper than some of the ones you are talking about. Lots of lens options, and lightweight. I know a couple of people who have the big ass Nikon's and they weight a tonne! not so great after a day of taking photo's. That's my $0.02!

Many people don't know that your supposed to do that. I guess they assume that they only have one stitch on each corner to reduce weight :chuckle

I liked these so I tried some out tonight after getting the tree up. I'm a big Max Escher fan so I like the reflected Christmas balls lol. I'm using a late 1980's Pentax MF 50mm f/1.7 for the bokeh and the reflection on, then just a regular 28-70mm f/4 for the sparkly one.

I used a tripod with some bungee cords on the back seats. The ideal way to take it would be to use a section cup on the rear window.

I don't automatically import my raw files in PS. I use the DPP software first to tweak the raw files and then import them to JPGs. Then open them on PS for editing. I can't import my raw files as well directly from PS. I'm not sure why, I have CS3 and a 7D.

cs3 is older than 7d.
RAW files from newly released cameras can be different and so your older apps released prior to camera release may not be able to read them. You need to update camera raw for Photoshop or upgrade it completely (http://www.adobe.com/products/photoshop/cameraraw.html)
This is the same case for dpp (but of course the copy included with yor camera will be correct version)

No filter required. Set your aperture to a small number and focus on something in the foreground. Separating the object in the foreground from the other objects in the background also helps out.

Still trying to learn the manual mode on the P&S. Half the battle is trying to understand all the +/-'s and F-somethings and playing with light exposures, etc.

I just played a little with the perfume, hope you don't mind. Just adjusted the levels to make it pop a bit. Nice image nonetheless, you should make a DIY photobox now if you like photographing products. :)
