All of those set ups are for a show car not a street car. How the hell would you be able to drive any of those cars around GTA without getting your car ****ed up unless you had air ride which even that is dumb on a Mazda3/Speed3.

I didnt say it cant be done but IMO its pretty dumb idea because you have to drive very slow in certain areas and avoid certain streets totally. I get when people drop the car 1.8-2 inches or whatever but having it barely touching the ground will **** your car up guarenteed.

its not that you have to drive slow ... you can drive as fast as you want .. i go 40 sometimes on bay which is a ****ed up street... the reason i said you need to know how to drive is because you need to watch whats infront of you and avoid the pot holes/ bumps or w.e ... this doesnt only have to be done if you car is dumped with big rims ... but every car even if its bone stock should be driving smarter ... drive smart .. and you can drive on any road with almost any car no matter the condition

I disagree with you when you say you can drive as fast as you want... even with my stock height MS3 I went over a hump on a smooth road with no holes but the hump made my suspension bottom out and I was doing the speed limit. If my car was slammed my engine would have bottomed out. I agree with on the point of driving smart by keeping a eye out for pot holes/ irregular bumps... thats common sense. Everyone that I know of have seen driving a slammed vehicle drives like a turtle unless your on the highway.
Dave_The_BMXER
07-07-2011, 11:08 AM
Keep in mind most of our suspension is fairly stiff.
Just throwing this here as an example, seems to be going highway speed just fine.

I'll disagree on the practical part..... yes I drive carefully, and quite slowly over speedbumps etc., but it is still a daily driver (though I'm using the TTC to get to work downtown these days) and hauls around family and dogs quite well. I still load this bish up and drive where I need to drive.
Country lanes with foot-deep potholes? No. Pot-holed city streets and highways? No problem. (Speedbumps? Try to avoid them).

But dude - don't fall for the "CreditCard Dream". I used to sell parts and even offered in-house financing. Lets just say IMHO, this hobby is not worth drowning in debt for.
I've seen guys use 3 different creditcards AND Cash just to buy a $500 part. I've seen ppl put things on layaway for as long as 9 months and still not pick them up.

1) Speed bumps are designed to slow cars down. I'm just obeying the intent of the road/lot designers, blame them. Although I just try to avoid them altogether.
2) On most roads I'm moving with the speed of traffic, or at least at the posted speed limit, and almost always on multi-lane roads. I've never had a back-up behind me.

hes driving on the highway at atleast 100 km/h and is not holding anyone up ... i dont think theres anything wrong with being that low as long as you know how to drive ... ive seen people that are not lowered go slower on speed bumps then people that are ... its all about knowing how to maneuver

I agree (somewhat)
I've seen cars lowered that need to change lanes, weave side to side, or slam on their brakes when driving through city streets because of potholes, speedbunps or uneven roads. They are annoying and dangerous to follow
Although sexy to look at - cars that low (usually with an improper suspension set up) is not meant for Toronto roads.
Highways "generally" have smoother roads but we've all seen how the 401 is during summer.
THANK GOD the express lanes on the 401 WB over Yonge is fixed.

Talked to a few non Mazda peeps about doing hella flush on our cars. All of them agreed that we should be running a minimum 18" with a 8" to 9.5" setup. Also the Mazda 3's fender doesn't flare out as much so it's much harder to achieve the hella flush look.

Dave is it not possible to get ur car lower??? like .25 -.50' and ur car would be perfect IMHO. its sits mint right now but a little moar low would be baller.
I know BC has the extreme drop kit but u could have Swift make u a custom set of springs (just supply them with the mesurments and spring rate u want)http://www.swiftsprings.com/ than replace ur bc springs with the new ones. unless bc can make a shorter spring...
I love the hellaflush/agressive fitment scene but have no balls to do it on my car. plus for me function>form

I have the extreme drop kit as well and I can see that it's not necessary to get a shorter spring if you only want to go 1/2 an inch lower. If you remove the 2 locking collars on the front I think you might actually get a little more then half an inch. With the height bottomed out they're useless anyways. The back can go way lower so that's not an issue.
I think Dave's exhaust is also something to consider. Watching him roll out yesterday, it looked WAY lower than the skirts or bumpers. IMO, his stance is a great combo of form and function

Basically all of the reasons I have not gone lower are listed above lol.
Removing the lock rings is an option but if I am going to go to the trouble of taking apart my front suspension I would rather do it right and get shorter springs however there is some debate as to what rates and length will get me where I want to be. Also my winter tires rub at my current height over bumps (I do NOT lift my car in the winter) to the point where I have holes in my liner. If I were to go lower (again the not raising thing) I would have to do some modifications to the pinch weld in the fender.
The rear is actually maxed out with all rings and such intact, again I could run spring only no adjusters but I really like to run my suspension as manufacturers intended.
My exhaust is kind of an issue the muffler is currently angled up from something I hit in the winter lol, I could get it hung a little higher though.
My goal over the winter is to shoot off some emails and figure out what can be done to get that extra 1/2. It was a bit of a kick in the teeth to help BC with the R&D of the extreme drop kit (one of the first) pay the $350 for the new parts then find out they sold it as a kit later.
What can you do though right?

Out of curiosity, how are the back springs mounted on your kit? I find it odd that you'd be maxed out. I can adjust the back down a lot more on my kit. I think I could tuck the lip of my wheels if I adjusted it all the way down.

Well, you can't really drive with your chassis on the ground, car doesn't move too well. Plus I think it's sort of frowned upon by authorities. But it looks really cool / nice.
I think that's why people will park it, slam it, and then raise it when they go to leave. Probably less expensive that way too lol

To me that's only part of it. I don't necessarily care about laying frame on the ground, but having an extra-low parked height is a cool bonus for me. The main goal is to be able to have a very low driving height, with a comfortable spring rate, and instantly adjustable height for rough roads, hazards, and speedbumps.

See I guess that makes sense. I haven't seen a bagged car on the road (that I know of) so in my head they're rolling around with a 1.5" dropand then parking on the subframe haha

Too much. I like people who push the game, but only when it still looks cohesive. This just looks broken.

I can tell you all about the finer points of a great set of legs but mine are ugly and hairy.......
Can't argue with that Dave^^ the originator of HellaFlush probably knows what Hellaflush is lol
personally, I still like how far he's pushing the fitment, but thats just my opinion

IMO there isn't any rules everyone will like what they will. I happen to like certain styles over others but I try my best not to force my opinion on others that is one of the things that give the 'stance crowd' a bad name.
That and thinking we are the first.

+1 to that. Poking and going "overflush" has been popular many times in the past. My dad kept trying to convince me to run spacers on my last car (focus zx3) to get the wheels out from underneath the fender lol.
It was popular when he was a kid... What goes around comes around

The Wolf

I don't think they are. They don't look like TH lines to me
I was googling for the upsized Ronal Turbos and accidentally linked to these so I don't know much about them
