now THAT is gorgeous. dare I ask, static? if so, game over (except for maybe Kevin on MF, at least i think that's his name lol)
fenders aren't butchered, camber is on point (not excessive because it's necessary imo) and the front end is spectacular, except it looks like the bumper and driver's side fender are slightly different colours?

His front passenger is demolished. All others, except for from driver, are bubbling.

Wouldn't the oil pressure light go off fairly quick? Or was it a slow leak? Either way that sucks.

Fenders a little rougher than I thought but still not too bad. Quarters... well doesn't snow where he is right?

I would never want to run that low. Thats just hazardous, and the fact that he broke his oil pan, thats a problem, should have just put some washers under the motor mounts to raise the motor up a CM or so.

If I pulled fenders, you guys think 18x9.5 +22 would work? Would I need camber plates? I don't mind a little poke in the front (as was the case with my street setup).

Aitch
11-01-2012, 02:11 PM
You're going to need fender flares for that, especially in the front. I know Hyperion needs a few degrees negative camber just to fit 18x8.5 +38 on his front end, and you're talking about another 28mm of poke.

it'll work with enough camber. up front is where it gets tricky, but the rear should be fine with a good stretch and some decent camber. i'd go narrower up front if you don't want demon camber or fender flares

you will definitely have to pull and roll the front fenders and then get as much camber as you can in front. I am running 18x8.75 +20 all around and my front rubs everywhere i go! but it is do-able. i was planning to go with that size in the beginning and you own a 2010+ which means you have a bit wider fenders then the first gen 3's :) ! do it do it !

do that for the back. for the front 18x9 +35 will prob get what your looking for.

Mty Mous
11-02-2012, 01:01 AM
9" wide with +35mm offset would be similar to my 8" wide with +22mm offset and yes, that should work fine for the Fronts, I simply lowered it didn't even bother checking camber or alignment this summer ... didn't care about wearing out the tires quick ... next spring with fresh rubber, it'd be a different story.

i ran 18x9 +45 with 235/40 lowered 1.75" inch without pull/roll/rub. the new setup would be square, i wouldn't have a choice as im buying the rims off someone. they come with 255/35/18s (i really want the tires lol)...if i had a choice i would limit it to 9 up front but i dont.

"To those that are inquiring, the car was forced to be brought back to stock due to local authority and law. (No modification of stock suspension)."

doesn't really make sense to me.

Aitch
11-12-2012, 12:00 PM
Apparently, prohibited in Quebec: "Using springs that have been shortened, bundled or overheated. It is also prohibited to have a suspension that is too rigid, an insufficient wheelbase, tires that touch a vehicle component or any part of the vehicle body that touches the road surface in a normal driving situation." So hard-assed cops could have written tickets for improper suspension. Given how low his car sits, and knowing that the AirRex suspension only has about 3" of lift, even raised completely they might deem it too low (or find fault with suspension able to be adjusted while moving). I'm not saying its 100% illegal, but perhaps something like this occurred and Sam decide the hassle of fighting it wasn't worth it.

You can run 10" wheels on the car with little issues. So unless they are larger than that I find the ridiculous camber very stupid.

The Wolf

very few, if any people are running wheels larger than 10". Ridiculous camber is mostly due to low offset. Either just for the sake of having low offset, or for a deep dish/concave look.

Agree about the ridiculous camber. I'm personally not a fan. Everyone wants to be "the widest, the most extreme, the lowest" etc... without focusing how their car looks as a whole.

I heard a motorcycle builder/enthusiast describe how I feel best. Something along the lines of this:

It's kind of like a movie showing a big custom bike shop designing a bike. A shot of one guy designing the taillights, skip to a shot of another guy designing the gas tank, skip to another guy designing the handlebars... and as the camera pans out to reveal the finished bike, it just looks like a complete mess. Every part is designed well, and looks good on its own, but nothing flows with anything else. To me, I like to think about how one part of the bike will affect another. I like bikes that look like the whole thing was designed and thought out together.

edit: zzz3, methinks that'll be quite difficult to make happen up front.

????? Do you know something we do not?

As for camber I think it needs to flow, so tons out back and very little upfront doesn't flow and thus isn't as appealing to me. But I've said this over and over.

far from rice,

Big wing/ugly stickers/fart cannons vs tires that do not fit proper/rims that demolish your fenders/suspension so stiff your car has no vertical movement.

Both are ugly.
One is unsafe.
Neither make your car go faster or IMPROVE handling.

It's just MY opinion that it is, because it matches most of the common descriptions of "rice"

Come follow me down a gravel road with my mud terrains sticking 6 inches out from my wheel wells/fenders :chuckle

I also don't believe your car tires are at a 75degree angle, I like your car, I much prefer a low car that has tucked wheels then one that scrapes their fender at the sight of a pot hole.

thanks

just saying that is unsafe.. you could fling something into my windsheild causing a accident..

now im all for lifted trucks (dad has 2010 ram lifted 9 inchs) but everyone builds cars differently. most lifted trucks never get used for what there for anyways.

this is a show car ment to fit wide ass rims with being super low.

I think locally at least I'm running the widest set going. I could be wrong though.

ahhhh we'll see :chuckle

to those who say hellaflush is rice, your opinion is your own, but to me it seems odd to post it in the hellaflush thread? maybe the "rice" thread is a better spot? don't bother checking that anyway so have at it

Hellaflush is not rice. Hellaflush is not extreme camber. Skrillex is not dubstep. Taylor Swift is not hot. Popped collars are not cool. I could go on all day.

I wouldn't do it to my car, but everyone should decide that for themselves. I must admit it does look good on some cars or show cars (nothing extreme mind you so that it's dangerous).

Like anything, there is good and bad. The thread has some really nicely done cars, and then some that are just dangerous. Not too many of the guys who have extreme camber last like that. They usually smarten up and go air, sell the car, or go back to something a little more tame.

The guy on Works above isn't bad. Little too much poke for me.

you know I think that might actually work....it could be a little difficult to remove from the threads, but that's nothing a wire brush couldn't handle...

Yeah but using a wire brush will at least score the metal surface, making it easier for rust to take hold (even in summer).

It won't fit a non-speed Mazda 3 though. Just a heads up

I've been thinking about this (ms3 lip options suck though) with the right amount of work (sectioning) it could probably work right? I mean it would cost a lot (money or manhours) but is theoretically possible with a plastic welder or something?

ive seen it done before.. but it is ALOT of work! you need the speed 3 hood, fenders, and front bumper (and possibly some other small mods here and there)

For sure it's possible if you have the skills and know-how, or money. I could see it being cheaper to trade up to a speed3, or full front end swap than to custom fit a speed3 bumper

Also need the front cowl and rad support. I think Dave was asking about custom-fitting the bumper to the existing NA hood and fenders though.

Yeah I'm talking just the bumper just sectioned.

I have a lot of silly OEM swaps in my head for Mazda 3s.

IE if I got a speed 3 I'd want to FMIC and swap the other way (reg front on speed3 for sleeperness)

Yeah i saw the spoiler, hole-less trunk, valence and speed3 exhaust and figured maybe it was actually a repainted speed...

"In the car scene of today, the current trend seems to be pushing cars to their absolute extreme, often leaving any sense of practicality behind in the pursuit of creating the next "big hit." The wheels sit mere millimeters (or less) from the fenders, smashing into them over even the slightest of bumps, while the ground "clearance" insures the body of the car is just as friendly with the pavement. The car becomes more of a chore to drive than enjoyable, and while the cars look fantastic doing this, it makes them less than desirable to drive on a daily basis. "

This.
